An established organisation within the maritime and logistics sector is seeking a detail-oriented Accounts Executive to support its day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting activities.
The role covers invoice and receipt processing, vendor payments, fixed assets, journal entries, bank reconciliations and month-end closing. You will work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure transactions are accurately recorded, properly supported and completed within the required timelines.
Responsibilities:
- Process and transmit customer invoices and daily freight and non-freight receipts from internal operating systems into the accounting system.
- Review accounting entries and ensure transactions are assigned the correct general ledger codes in accordance with internal policies and applicable accounting standards.
- Process duty-related vendor invoices, employee claims and daily receipt entries, ensuring all supporting documentation is complete and accurate.
- Prepare scheduled vendor-payment runs, interbank GIRO proposals and ad hoc online payments, ensuring the necessary approvals are obtained before submission.
- Prepare weekly Statements of Account and other recurring finance reports.
- Compile monthly pro forma revenue comparison reports, expense reports and exchange-rate updates.
- Maintain the fixed-asset register and process asset capitalisation, transfers, disposals and monthly depreciation.
- Prepare payroll-related journals and other month-end adjustment entries required under applicable financial reporting standards.
- Support month-end closing activities, including reconciliations, journal postings and review of outstanding items.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and investigate any unreconciled transactions.
- Prepare quarterly balance-sheet schedules and supporting documentation for assigned accounts.
- Assist with the preparation of general overhead budgets, revised forecasts and variance information.
- Support internal-control reviews and audit activities by preparing schedules and retrieving the required documents.
- Maintain complete and orderly electronic records in accordance with document-retention requirements.
Requirements:
- Diploma in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- At least 3 years of relevant accounting or finance experience.
- Practical experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, bank reconciliations and month-end closing.
- Experience within the maritime, shipping, logistics or transportation sectors would be advantageous.
- Familiarity with fixed-asset accounting, payment processing and balance-sheet reconciliations.
- Working knowledge of applicable accounting and financial reporting standards.
- Comfortable using accounting or ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage recurring deadlines and a high volume of transactions.
- Organised, responsible and able to maintain accurate supporting records.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with finance and operational stakeholders.
