Responsibilities

About the Opportunity:

An established international MNC manufacturer supplying specialised industrial products across regional markets. The organisation maintains structured global sourcing practices and places strong emphasis on product quality, supply continuity, operational efficiency and responsible procurement.

What You'll Be Doing:

The Purchasing Executive will manage direct-material procurement, focusing on raw materials and packaging. The role covers purchasing, material planning, supplier coordination, price negotiation, import documentation, regulatory permits and procurement reporting to ensure uninterrupted production supply.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan raw-material and packaging requirements based on rolling sales forecasts, customer orders, inventory levels and production needs.
  • Issue purchase orders and follow up with suppliers on order confirmation, delivery schedules and outstanding materials.
  • Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations before securing the necessary internal approval and placing orders.
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, delivery arrangements and other commercial conditions with local suppliers.
  • Monitor incoming-material schedules and highlight potential shortages, delays or unusual demand fluctuations.
  • Evaluate supplier performance based on on-time delivery, quality compliance, pricing competitiveness and service levels.
  • Coordinate sample-material orders and ensure timely delivery for testing, qualification and production trials.
  • Participate in new-customer and new-product projects by sourcing required materials and planning supply from trial production through mass production.
  • Review global supplier price revisions and supply terms with Group Category Managers and align the agreed conditions with local suppliers.
  • Coordinate import shipments and verify that shipping documents are complete, accurate and received on time.
  • Liaise with freight forwarders, customs authorities, MIDA and other relevant parties regarding clearance, classification, exemptions and import permits.
  • Submit material samples and supporting documents for customs classification, including C1, C3 and HS code matters.
  • Manage MIDA exemption applications, renewals and other permits relating to imported raw materials and packaging.
  • Compile procurement KPI data covering on-time delivery, payment terms, quality claims and cost savings.
  • Maintain purchasing information and records within the company’s ERP system.
  • Participate in daily logistics meetings and coordinate closely with production, logistics, sales, quality and finance teams.
  • Maintain complete purchasing documentation in compliance with ISO 9001:2015 and internal quality-management requirements.
  • Support procurement improvement initiatives and undertake other assignments when required.

What We're Looking For:

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Purchasing, Business Administration, Logistics or a related discipline.
  • At least 3 years of purchasing, procurement or material-planning experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience purchasing direct materials, particularly raw materials and packaging.
  • Working knowledge of purchase orders, supplier quotations, delivery follow-up and inventory coordination.
  • Experience in supplier negotiation, performance monitoring and cost-control activities.
  • Familiarity with import documentation, freight forwarding, customs clearance, HS code classification or MIDA applications is advantageous.
  • Experience supporting production trials, new-product introduction or new-material sourcing is preferred.
  • Proficient in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 documentation and audit requirements.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, organisational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Able to work independently while coordinating across multiple departments and external suppliers.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive and capable of managing competing priorities within tight timelines.
  • Willing to be based in Johor.
