Position Overview

Affintive is seeking an experienced Interim Financial Controller to provide financial leadership and operational oversight to our accounting function during a six-month assignment.

This role is responsible for ensuring the integrity and quality of accounting operations, strengthening team capability, improving accounting processes and controls, and enhancing the delivery of management reporting and financial insights to Australian SME clients.

The successful candidate will combine strong technical accounting capability with practical leadership experience, demonstrating the ability to coach accountants, improve processes and translate financial information into meaningful business insights.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting Oversight

• Oversee accounting operations performed using Xero and related cloud accounting applications.
• Review accounting entries, reconciliations and month-end processes to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Provide guidance on accounting treatments and application of accounting standards.
• Establish appropriate review standards and quality assurance practices.
• Identify accounting risks, recurring issues and areas requiring improvement.

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead and mentor a team of junior to mid-level accountants.
• Provide technical coaching and guidance to strengthen accounting fundamentals.
• Develop team capability in applying accounting knowledge to practical business situations.
• Encourage ownership, accountability and continuous improvement within the team.

Process Improvement & Systems Optimization

• Evaluate existing accounting workflows and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Improve efficiency, accuracy and consistency through better processes and system utilization.
• Support enhancement of Xero workflows, controls and reporting practices.
• Document improvements and knowledge for ongoing operational sustainability.

Management Reporting & Client Advisory Support

• Review monthly management reports for accuracy, relevance and quality.
• Analyze financial performance and identify key business trends.
• Convert financial information into clear insights and recommendations for clients.
• Support client-facing discussions through commercially meaningful financial analysis.

Candidate Profile

Essential Requirements

• Degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent professional qualification.
• CPA / CA / ACCA qualification preferred.
• Significant accounting experience with demonstrated experience leading accounting operations.
• Experience supervising, reviewing or developing accounting teams.
• Strong technical accounting fundamentals with the ability to apply judgement in practical business situations.
• Experience using cloud accounting platforms, preferably Xero.
• Strong analytical ability with experience preparing and interpreting management reports.
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.

Preferred Experience

• Experience in an outsourced accounting, professional services or SME advisory environment.
• Experience supporting Australian clients.
• Experience improving accounting processes, controls and workflows.
• Experience developing junior accountants and improving team capability.

Contract Duration: 6 months

Contract package: RM 10k - 15k/ month
