Job Summary
Exentec Services Malaysia is seeking a qualified and experienced Chargeman (33kV Certified) to oversee the safe operation, maintenance, and reliability of high-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Malaysian electrical regulations, maintaining uninterrupted power supply to critical facilities, and supporting preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and maintain electrical installations, including 33kV high-voltage systems, substations, transformers, switchgear, UPS systems, generators, and associated electrical infrastructure.
- Ensure all electrical systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with the Electricity Supply Act, Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga) regulations, and relevant Malaysian standards.
- Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and corrective maintenance on electrical equipment.
- Respond promptly to electrical faults, emergencies, and power interruptions to minimize operational downtime.
- Supervise electrical maintenance contractors and ensure work is carried out safely and in accordance with approved procedures.
- Prepare and maintain maintenance records, equipment logs, incident reports, and statutory documentation.
- Conduct switching operations, isolation, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and permit-to-work activities for high-voltage electrical systems.
- Support planned shutdowns, commissioning activities, testing, and energization of electrical systems.
- Monitor electrical system performance and recommend improvements to enhance reliability, efficiency, and energy utilization.
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) requirements and company Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies.
- Participate in emergency response activities and provide technical support during critical facility incidents.
- Coordinate with facility management, operations teams, and external authorities when required.
- Assist in energy management initiatives and continuous improvement programs.
Qualifications
- Valid 33kV Chargeman Certificate issued by the Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga), Malaysia.
- Diploma or Certificate in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in high-voltage electrical maintenance and facility operations.
- Experience in mission-critical facilities, semiconductor plants, data centers, manufacturing facilities, or industrial environments is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of:
- High-voltage distribution systems (33kV)
- Transformers and substations
- HV/LV switchgear
- Protection relays
- UPS systems
- Diesel generators
- Power monitoring systems
- Electrical safety procedures
Required Competencies
- Excellent troubleshooting and fault-finding skills.
- Strong knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
- Ability to interpret electrical single-line diagrams, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Good understanding of risk assessment, permit-to-work systems, and LOTO procedures.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Proficient in preparing maintenance reports and documentation.
- Willingness to work on shifts, weekends, public holidays, and respond to emergency call-outs when required.
