We are a growing EPCC company specialising in solar PV systems, battery energy storage (BESS), and EV charging infrastructure. As part of strengthening our in-house Finance function, we are bringing accounting capabilities fully in-house and are looking for an independent, hands-on Finance & Accountant to take ownership of the full set of Finance & account.
The Role
The Finance & Accounts Manager is a hands-on leadership role responsible for both preparing and overseeing the Finance & Accounts function of a growing EPCC company specialising in Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and related infrastructure projects.
This role requires direct involvement in management reporting, bank reconciliations, cash-flow management, and project-based accounting, while supervising and coaching a relatively junior finance team.
The role also covers assessment of trade facilities and loan requirements, direct engagement with banks on facility applications, and occasional customer office visits to resolve finance-related matters. The Finance & Accounts Manager is expected to support ad-hoc responsibilities as directed by top management.
Key Responsibilities
1. Hands-On Financial Management & Reporting
Personally prepare, finalise, and present monthly management accounts, including:
- Profit & Loss
- Balance Sheet
- Cash-flow summaries
Perform and manage month-end and quarter-end closing, including:
- Accruals and provisions
- Prepayments
- Depreciation
- Balance-sheet reconciliations
- Ensure general ledger integrity, accuracy, and complete audit trails
- Prepare financial analysis, variance analysis, and management commentary
- Continuously enhance management reporting formats and insights
2. Project-Based Accounting & Revenue Recognition (EPCC-Critical)
- Establish and maintain project and cost-centre structures
- Track project budgets, actual costs, and margins
- Prepare and review Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules
- Determine and apply revenue recognition based on percentage of project completion, milestones, or progress claims
Review and approve accounting for:
- Progress billing
- Variation orders (VO)
- Retention sums
- Project close-outs
- Support financial tracking during Defects Liability Period (DLP)
3. Cash-Flow, Banking & Reconciliations
- Prepare and monitor cash-flow forecasts and short-term liquidity positions
- Track daily and weekly cash positions
- Perform and/or review bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies promptly
- Maintain accurate cash books
- Support payment prioritisation in a cash-sensitive EPCC environment
- Liaise with banks on operational banking matters
4. Trade Facilities, Loans & Banking Engagement
- Assess working capital, trade facility, and loan requirements based on project pipeline and cash-flow forecasts
- Evaluate suitability of facilities such as overdrafts, trade lines, bank guarantees, and letters of credit
- Prepare financial justifications, projections, and supporting documents for facility applications
- Engage banks directly on facility applications, renewals, and revisions
- Monitor utilisation, covenants, and expiry of banking facilities
- Provide management with recommendations on optimal financing structures
5. Statutory, Tax & Regulatory Compliance
- Prepare and/or review quarterly and annual financial statements
- Ensure compliance with:
- Companies Act
- LHDN requirements
- SST (where applicable)
- Coordinate statutory audits and directly handle routine audit queries
- Support tax computation and liaise with tax agents
- Coordinate with company secretary on statutory filings
6. Customer & External Party Engagement
- Attend meetings or visit customers’ offices, when required, to:
- Resolve invoicing or billing disputes
- Clarify progress claims or retention matters
- Support collections and issue resolution
- Represent the Finance function professionally in customer-facing discussions
- Coordinate with Sales, Project, and Customer Service teams to close issues
Attend relevant external trainings, briefings, or industry sessions from time to time to stay updated on:
- Financial, tax, and regulatory changes
- Industry rules and compliance requirements affecting EPCC operations
7. Team Supervision & Capability Building
Supervise:
- Accounts Payable Executive
- Accounts Receivable / Billing Executive
- Provide hands-on guidance, review, and coaching to junior team members
- Review AP and AR outputs for accuracy and compliance
- Gradually uplift team capability, discipline, and process maturity
8. Controls, ISO & Governance
- Establish and enforce finance SOPs, approval matrices, and segregation of duties
- Support ISO certification and maintenance (e.g. ISO 9001) from a finance and governance perspective
- Participate in internal audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Identify and escalate control gaps, financial risks, and process weaknesses
9. Ad-Hoc & Management-Directed Responsibilities
- Undertake other finance- or business-related duties as required by the CEO or top management
- Support special projects, reviews, or initiatives involving financial analysis or controls
