About The Company

Hotlotz is Singapore's leading auction house, conducting over 50 internationally marketed online auctions a year across categories that include Fine Art, Jewellery & Watches, Asian Works of Art, Peranakan Works of Art, Luxury Handbags, Fine Wine, and Collectibles. Founded in 2015, Hotlotz works with private collectors, estates, and professional services firms to conduct sales that require the highest standards of professionalism, transparency and accountability.

All items that we sell are physically displayed in our Bukit Merah saleroom. Bidding takes place on our acclaimed digital platform.

In 2025 we relaunched our digital marketplace business, which offers items at fixed prices.

Hotlotz boasts a friendly, multinational team of over 20 professionals. Our team is structured across three key departments: valuation, operations, and technology.

About The Role

Software and tech is crucial to Hotlotz - our proprietary back office consignment software is the backbone that powers our auction and marketplace business. The software allows our team to onboard consigned items from sellers, perform cataloguing and valuation, list them in our auctions and/or marketplace, and subsequently collect payment from buyers and settle payouts to sellers. As the business rapidly expands, we are looking to enhance the features of our software further and build up our auction technology. There will be a mixture of greenfield and brownfield projects.

We are looking to hire a mid-level (L4 equivalent) Software Engineer (SWE) with at least two years of full-time software engineering experience. This is a full-stack engineering role with a frontend (web UI) focus. You'll work across the stack, with a particular emphasis on building high-quality, user-facing web experiences. The ideal candidate brings strength and/or interest in frontend development, enjoys creating intuitive, performant user experiences and is equally willing to contribute to backend systems as needed.

As a SWE at Hotlotz, you will have the opportunity to make a huge impact as well as grow your engineering skills. You will be mentored by the CTO, an ex-Google Software Engineer. At the same time, you will have the opportunity to mentor other junior engineers and conduct code reviews. Apart from engineers, close collaboration will be required with product / UX, finance, valuation, and operations teams.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • 2 years of full-time work experience (fresh grads should not apply)
  • Must be currently residing in Singapore - the application process will include a mix of online and onsite interviews
  • Able to work in Singapore (Employment Pass sponsorship available)
  • Willingness to perform on-call duties on a rotational basis

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with full-stack development, but with strength and/or interest in frontend (web UI)
  • Openness to thoughtful AI usage - SWEs are encouraged to use AI (e.g. Claude Code) but must always be accountable and be able to justify each line of code
  • Conscientious, willing to put in the effort to dig deep into a problem, considering various approaches and trade-offs from both a technical and user perspective
  • Strong sense of ownership to independently drive features and systems end-to-end, working alongside stakeholders to understand problems and shape what should be built
  • Proactive mindset with the confidence and curiosity to ask lots of insightful questions to clarify ambiguity, propose alternative approaches, and develop effective solutions
  • Constructive skepticism with a willingness to seek the rationale behind decisions, verify assumptions, and challenge the status quo to improve the software
  • Commitment to continuous learning, ability to seek and internalise principles and patterns, and apply them to new situations
  • Desire to adopt software development best practices and clean code

Please note that this role is not open to third party recruiters or agencies.
