Construction project manager duties and responsibilities

A construction project manager oversees every aspect of aconstruction project, including planning and design, ensuring it’s completed ontime and within budget. They typically hire subcontractors and superviseemployees at each job site. Construction project managers also help supportcompliance with national safety standards and local building codes.

Common duties include:

• Coordinating with architects, engineers, plumbers and electricians
• Preparing and reviewing cost estimates, bids and contracts
• Communicating project updates to clients and other interested parties, such as consultants
• Leading project meetings and maintaining accurate documentation, including drawings, change orders and project plans
• Enforcing employee safety procedures and environmental regulations, such as the Clean Air Act (CAA) 
• Procuring project materials, equipment and permits
• Resolving project issues to prevent delays or budget overages
• Excellent leadership and coordination skills to lead construction workers and collaborate with other contractors
• Ability to read blueprints, such as floor plans and mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) drawings
• Keeping daily employee logs and monitoring the conduct of Construction Workers and Contractors
