Responsibilities
Role Summary
The Managed Services Technical Lead serves as the primary technical authority within the Managed Services organization, bridging Service Delivery, Architecture, and Operations teams. The role is responsible for ensuring the technical health, stability, performance, and continual improvement of managed customer environments across infrastructure, virtualization, cloud, network, security, backup, and platform services. The Technical Lead provides technical governance, drives complex incident resolution, oversees operational engineering standards, and ensures managed services are delivered according to architectural and operational best practices. This role acts as the key technical advisor to Service Delivery Managers, customers, and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Governance
• Serve as the technical lead and escalation point across infrastructure, virtualization, operating systems, networking, cloud, security, storage, and backup platforms.
• Provide technical governance aligned with architecture, security, and operational best practices.
• Review and validate technical changes, maintenance activities, remediation plans, and major initiatives.
• Define operational engineering standards, policies, support models, and service delivery guidelines.
• Ensure technical consistency across managed service accounts.
Operational Excellence
• Lead Major Incident investigations, Problem Management, RCA, and service restoration.
• Drive remediation of risks, technical debt, capacity constraints, performance bottlenecks, and vulnerabilities.
• Review infrastructure health and platform performance for continuous improvement.
• Oversee quality assurance of engineering activities.
• Maintain runbooks, SOPs, and technical documentation.
Engineering & Platform Management
• Provide oversight of compute and virtualization (Nutanix, VMware, Hyper-V), Windows/Linux servers, storage, backup, networking, security, and hybrid/public cloud services.
• Guide troubleshooting, optimization, upgrades, patching, lifecycle management, and modernization initiatives.
• Participate in infrastructure refresh and service enhancement reviews.
Service Transition & Lifecycle Management
• Support transition of customer environments into managed services.
• Validate readiness, monitoring, documentation, and knowledge transfer.
• Review solution designs for maintainability and supportability.
• Collaborate with project delivery teams.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
• Act as trusted technical advisor.
• Participate in service reviews and governance meetings.
• Present recommendations and remediation plans.
• Support Service Delivery Managers with impact and risk assessments.
Automation & Continuous Improvement
• Drive automation, orchestration, and tooling initiatives.
• Reduce repetitive tasks through scripting and process automation.
• Champion operational maturity and best practices.
• Evaluate new technologies for managed services offerings.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
• Mentor and coach engineers.
• Support technical development plans and skills growth.
• Foster accountability, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.
• Lead technical communities of practice.
Pre-Sales & Solution Support
• Support solution architects and sales teams.
• Review designs and support requirements from a managed services perspective.
• Define service scope, support coverage, and assumptions.
• Contribute to presentations, workshops, and onboarding discussions.
Required Skills & Experience
Technical Competencies
• Strong experience in virtualization (Nutanix, VMware, Hyper-V).
• Windows and Linux administration.
• Enterprise storage and backup solutions.
• Networking (LAN, WAN, routing, switching, firewalls).
• Public cloud platforms (Azure, AWS).
• Security technologies and operational controls.
• Monitoring and management platforms.
• Strong hybrid infrastructure troubleshooting skills.
• Automation and scripting with PowerShell, Python, Ansible, or equivalent.
Service Management Knowledge
• Strong understanding of ITIL Incident, Problem, Change, Capacity, Availability and Service Level Management.
• Experience supporting enterprise managed services environments.
• Familiarity with governance, reporting, and customer service management.
Leadership Capabilities
• Proven ability to lead technical teams without direct authority.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Ability to translate technical issues into business outcomes.
• Experience engaging enterprise customers and senior management.
