The Digital & Information Forensics Centre of Expertise employs cutting-edge technology and a multi-disciplinary approach involving on-scene, laboratory, and digital forensics to maximise evidence recovery and analysis to produce fast and actionable leads for our investigators. Through our push to increase the efficiency of digital forensics support for investigations, we have developed user-friendly tools to enable front-line officers to conduct evidence review on their own and generate leads faster.

What You Will Be Working On

The principal accountabilities of the job holder are to:

  • Conduct forensics research in the areas of mobile technologies, IoT devices, vehicle systems, and cloud services to support forensic examinations in crime investigations.
  • Develop tools, algorithms, and techniques for the extraction, analysis, and interpretation of digital evidence.
  • Collaborate with Forensic Examiners to ensure developed tools and techniques are integrated into operational workflows and meet investigative needs.
  • Evaluate, prototype, test, and enhance forensic tools and processes to improve examination capabilities.
  • Monitor emerging trends and technologies in digital forensics and related fields, applying new knowledge to the development of innovative tools and techniques.
  • Oversee and liaise with vendors on proof-of-concept projects, from scoping through to evaluation.

What We Are Looking For

Candidates should possess:

  • A tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Relevant knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous:
  • Proficiency in digital forensics, including hands-on experience with a range of forensic software tools for evidence examination.
  • Programming experience and familiarity with scripting languages such as Python, including hands-on experience in developing and integrating APIs.
  • Solid understanding of common operating systems and hardware architectures, including Linux, Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows.
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies and architectures, including AWS, Azure, and GCP.
  • Familiarity with GenAI, agentic frameworks, LLM APIs, MCPs, multi-agent orchestration, and knowledge graph and semantic technologies.
  • Experience managing projects from initial conceptualisation through to deployment.

  • All new appointees will be appointed on a two-year contract in the first instance.
