We are seeking an experienced Construction Health & Safety Coordinator to join a major capital project team. This role is critical to ensuring that site safety, health, and environment (SHE) standards are implemented and maintained across all phases of the project lifecycle — including construction, installation, commissioning, decommissioning, and qualification.
You will work closely with contractors and the site leadership team to embed a strong safety culture, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive continuous improvement in construction H,S&W performance. This position reports to the Construction Health & Safety Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide Health, Safety & Wellbeing (H,S&W) subject matter expertise to support the project portfolio.
- Provide assurance and oversight of legal duties and construction H,S&W best practices throughout project execution.
- Ensure contractors maintain adequate, competent H,S&W resources; monitor performance and address gaps.
- Review and audit contractor construction-phase safety plans and programmes for compliance with legislative and site requirements; conduct regular site inspections and worker engagements.
- Partner with contractors on safety culture and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Clarify and document transfer-of-responsibility arrangements between the client and contractors, including for temporary construction facilities.
- Support implementation of workforce drug and alcohol testing procedures where locally permitted.
- Ensure accidents/incidents are reported, investigated, and root-caused by contractors, with SME input and tracking of corrective actions to closure; ensure statutory reporting obligations are met.
- Maintain project H,S&W dashboards and monthly reporting to internal stakeholders.
- Share safety alerts and lessons learned across the project portfolio.
- Participate in regional construction safety networks and collaborate with site SHE leadership.
- Conduct monthly contractor audits and log safety observations in the project safety management system, tracking closure within required timeframes.
Requirements
Essential
- Advanced Certificate in Workplace Safety & Health (WSH) or equivalent, or higher.
- Proven health & safety experience in a project construction environment.
- Solid working knowledge of relevant Safety, Health & Environment legislation.
- Strong ability to manage cross-building/interface safety issues.
- Experience with constructability and cleanroom/GMP execution environments.
