What this job involves
The MEP Engineer is responsible for the design, analysis, and oversight of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems throughout the project lifecycle, from initial concept through construction and ongoing operations. This role requires comprehensive technical expertise in MEP system design principles, operational optimization, and maintenance planning to ensure efficient, code-compliant, and sustainable building performance. The position involves collaboration with design teams, contractors, and facility management to deliver integrated MEP solutions that meet client requirements and operational objectives.
Review and analyze MEP system designs, drawings, and specifications to ensure constructability, code compliance, and alignment with project requirements and operational objectives.

Conduct system analysis, load calculations, and performance evaluations to verify design adequacy and recommend modifications for improved efficiency and reliability.

Provide construction administration support including contractor coordination, submittal reviews, RFI responses, and field problem resolution throughout the construction phase.

Oversee MEP system commissioning, testing, and startup procedures to ensure proper installation, operation, and performance verification before system handover.

Perform system troubleshooting, failure analysis, and operational assessments for existing facilities while recommending corrective actions and performance improvements.

Develop preventive maintenance programs, operational procedures, and system documentation to optimize long-term performance and minimize lifecycle costs.

Monitor system performance, energy consumption, and operational efficiency while implementing continuous improvement initiatives and equipment upgrades to enhance building performance.

Interested? An ideal candidate would need to have the following qualificationsDesired experience and technical skills Required5+ years of MEP engineering experience with focus on construction support, commissioning, and facility operations across commercial or institutional projects

Minimum 3-5 years hands-on experience with MEP system analysis, performance evaluation, and operational optimization

Proven background in construction administration, contractor coordination, and field problem-solving for MEP installations

Experience with MEP system commissioning, testing protocols, and startup procedures for HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems

Background in facility operations, maintenance planning, or building performance optimization preferred

Track record working with MEP contractors, equipment vendors, and facility management teams throughout project lifecycle

Strong understanding of MEP design principles, load calculations, and system analysis for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems

Expertise in reading and interpreting MEP construction documents, P&IDs, electrical one-lines, and system schematics

Experience with building automation systems, energy management controls, and performance monitoring technologies

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and construction management software for documentation and reporting

Understanding of preventive maintenance practices, equipment lifecycle management, and operational troubleshooting techniques

Preferredknowledge of MEP codes and standards including ASHRAE, NEC, IBC, NFPA, and local jurisdiction requirement

Previous experience supporting design teams through constructability reviews, value engineering, and technical coordination

Knowledge of building information modeling (BIM) coordination and clash detection processes

Familiarity with energy efficiency standards, sustainability practices, and LEED requirements for MEP systems
