About the role

The Assistant Manager, Finance supports the finance function in the execution of day-to-day operations, ensuring the accuracy of financial records, compliance with internal processes and adherence to governance standards. The role is responsible for selected accounting functions, including donations, fixed assets and in-kind contributions, while supporting financial reporting, audit activities and continuous process improvements.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage the donation accounting function, including processing and accounting for donations received through various giving channels, ensuring the completeness, accuracy and timely recording of donation transactions.

  • Reconcile donation records from multiple donation platforms and payment channels, and prepare donor tax deduction submissions, donation reports and regulatory returns, where required.

  • Prepare and review journal entries, ensuring accounting transactions are accurately recorded and appropriately supported.

  • Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations, schedules and supporting documentation, ensuring reconciling items are investigated and resolved on a timely basis.

  • Manage the accounting for fixed assets, including acquisitions, disposals, depreciation and maintenance of the fixed asset register.

  • Manage the accounting for donations-in-kind and sponsorships-in-kind, including the preparation of related accounting entries, reconciliations and supporting schedules.

  • Review payment transactions to ensure proper documentation, approvals and compliance with internal policies.

  • Coordinate and support timely and accurate month-end and year-end closing activities.

  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements, management reports and audit schedules, and support audit queries.

  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of finance policies, internal controls and audit recommendations.

Requirements

·       Diploma with relevant experience, or Degree in Accountancy, or equivalent professional qualification.

·       At least 3 to 5 years of relevant accounting and finance experience.

·       Strong accounting knowledge with experience in month-end and year-end closing, balance sheet reconciliations and financial reporting.

·       Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

·       Experience with Xero or other accounting software is an advantage.

·       Experience in process improvement, internal controls, audit support or finance system enhancements will be an advantage.

·       Knowledge of charity governance and the social service sector is an advantage.

·       Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.

·       Meticulous, organised and able to meet deadlines.

·       Able to work independently and collaborate effectively across teams.

·       Proactive, adaptable and willing to learn new systems and technologies to improve work processes.
