Job Description

Responsibilities

Role Summary:
The Design Engineer is responsible for the structural design and detailing of precast concrete elements, ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and production requirements. This role involves close coordination with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver accurate and buildable design solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

1.     Plan and execute design activities in alignment with project timelines and site progress.

2.     Prepare structural design calculations for precast elements such as walls, slabs, beams, columns etc.  Work with PE to ensure safe lifting and handling of precast concrete components are properly designed.

3.     Check and validate shop drawings for accuracy, constructibility, and compliance with design intent.

4.     Liaise with external consultants (architects, C&S, M&E) to:

·       Identify and request missing or incomplete design inputs.

·       Detect and resolve discrepancies in design documentation.

·       Understand construction sequencing to prioritize design deliverables.

·       Modify and optimize designs based on project requirements, production capabilities and site constraints.

·       Obtain approvals for design outputs from clients and consultants.

5.      Collaborate with internal departments (production, planning, QA/QC) to ensure seamless integration of design with manufacturing and site requirements.

6.      Provide sketches and technical guidance to BIM modelers and drafters to develop layout and shop drawings, erection drawing and reinforcement detailing for precast concrete components (eg, beams, columns, wall panels, slabs, staircases etc.)

7.      Ensure drawings comply with relevant codes, standards and client specifications.

8.      Work with Main Contractor to resolve any precast issues to develop Method of Statement (MoS) for any repair work required.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Strong academic background in structural analysis and design.
  • 1–2 years of experience in structural design, preferably with exposure to precast systems.
  • Proficiency in structural design software (e.g., STAAD, ETABS) and AutoCAD/BIM tools.
  • Knowledge of relevant design codes (Eurocode, BS or local equivalents)
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
