Job Description
Responsibilities
(11-month Contract)
Under the supervision and direction of the staff veterinarians, the intern will be involved in all aspects of veterinary care at Ocean Park. He or she will participate in preventative, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures on both collection animals and stranding cases. The intern will have ample mentorship and access to assistance at all times.
This internship will have a heavy emphasis on aquatic animal research projects (e.g. assisted reproduction in elasmobranch etc) and laboratory based. The intern will be encouraged to prepare a scholarly manuscript for publication or conference presentation during the program.
The intern will be assigned time to spend working with the Clinical Laboratory in histopathology and will be required to learn how to prepare cut, mount and scan histopathology slides (all species) as part of the duties.
We hope that the intern will pursue a career in zoological or conservation medicine after the internship, and we will support them in this endeavor. However, this program is not intended as a precursor for employment at Ocean Park, and completion of the program is not in any way a guarantee of later employment at this facility.
Preference will be given to candidates with some clinical experience in the aquatic, zoological, or conservation fields wishing to enhance their skills and education. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate past contributions, participation, and/or interest in this field.
Fluency in verbal and written in English required, Cantonese and Putonghua would be an advantage.
