Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Lead Process Safety Engineer to provide technical leadership and engineering assurance across proposal, FEED, detailed design, EPCIC, fabrication, and commissioning phases.
The role is responsible for reviewing and verifying process safety engineering deliverables, managing engineering consultants, coordinating with multidisciplinary stakeholders, and ensuring projects meet safety, quality, cost, and schedule
requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and verify FEED documentation during ITB and proposal activities.
- Manage process safety engineering work during ITB, FEED, and competitive tender phases.
- Review and endorse FEED deliverables before detailed engineering and EPCIC execution.
- Lead the review and verification of detailed design deliverables during the EPCIC phase.
- Review vendor documentation and ensure accurate incorporation into the detailed design.
- Support site technical query resolution during fabrication.
- Review commissioning procedures and provide engineering support during commissioning.
- Ensure process safety activities are completed according to project safety, quality, cost, and schedule requirements.
- Coordinate with engineering, construction, hook-up and commissioning, transportation and installation, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
- Lead, coach, and mentor junior and developing engineers.
- Manage design consultants comprising engineers from different technical and cultural backgrounds.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent discipline.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia or an equivalent professional body would be an advantage.
Experience Requirements
- Approximately 15–25 years of Oil & Gas industry experience.
- Must have held at least one leadership role in a CPP or FPSO project.
- Proven experience leading or managing process safety engineering activities.
- Strong exposure to FEED, detailed engineering, EPCIC, fabrication, and commissioning phases.
Technical Competencies
- Hands-on experience in process safety and risk studies, including:
- Safety Critical Element Assessment
- Safety Case Studies for design and operations
- HAZOP and HAZID
- SIL and RAM studies
- Flare, radiation, exhaust, and dispersion studies
- Escape, Evacuation and Rescue Assessment (EERA)
- Emergency Survivability Safety Assessment (ESSA)
- Noise and vibration assessment
- Project risk assessments
- Experience using relevant process safety and consequence-modelling software, including Flaresim, FLACS, KFX, or equivalent tools.
- Strong knowledge of loss prevention engineering, including:
- Firewater demand calculations
- Firewater hydraulic and transient simulation
- Firewater P&IDs
- Firefighting systems
- Life-saving appliances
- Safety signage specifications and datasheets
- Hazardous area classification
Leadership Requirements
- Strong technical leadership and engineering decision-making capability.
- Able to manage consultants and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Effective in resolving complex technical and project-interface issues.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Able to collaborate with construction, hook-up and commissioning, transportation and installation, and client-facing project teams.
