Purpose of the Job

Reporting to the Head of Newbuilding & Innovation, this role is responsible for monitoring, analysing and improving the energy performance of a vessel or fleet. The role uses vessel data, technical knowledge and operational insight to identify inefficiencies, reduce fuel consumption and emissions, support regulatory compliance, and improve overall vessel performance while maintaining safe and reliable operations.


The individual will independently manage vessel-level analyses and defined performance work packages for allocated fleet. The Vessel Performance Manager will work closely with the other Vessel Performance Manager, Vessel Managers, Crew, Commercial Operations, to translate analytical findings into improvement actions.


This particular role opening requires demonstrated ability to review the performance of main engines, auxiliary engines, and associated supporting systems.


Job Responsibilities

  • Monitor vessel and fleet performance using both noon and high-frequency data, identifying abnormal fuel consumption, efficiency deterioration and data-quality issues.
  • For allocated fleet, conduct vessel-level performance investigations, distinguishing between hull, propeller, machinery, and operational causes, and recommend practical corrective actions.
  • Analyze the performance of main engines, auxiliary engines, boilers and associated supporting systems.
  • Manage assigned environmental compliance activities, including CII analysis and forecasting, SEEMP update, EEXI. Support yearly regulatory reporting (IMO MRV, EU ETS and FuelEU), verification and external environmental-rating submissions.
  • Evaluate the measured performance of energy-saving technologies and operational-efficiency initiatives and identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Produce clear vessel and fleet-performance reports and present evidence-based recommendations to technical, operational and commercial stakeholders.
  • Coordinate performance-improvement actions with Vessel Managers, ship staff, Commercial Operations, suppliers and internal teams, and confirm whether agreed actions deliver the expected benefit.
  • Improve analytical methods, dashboards, reporting workflows and data-validation processes, while maintaining clear documentation and sharing technical knowledge within the team.


Qualification & Experience

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in marine engineering, mechanical engineering, naval architecture or a related technical discipline.
  • 2nd engineer qualification and experience at sea at that level (or higher)

Must have

  • Demonstrated experience in this type of role for at least 4 years.

Preferred

  • Due to the requirement for a strong machinery knowledge, a seafarer background is expected most relevant, however this is not a pre-requisite for individuals with the right knowledge and experience.
  • Any programming experience would be a strong indicator of role fit even if it is to be developed further.


Travel

  • Shore based role, no regular travel expected.
