Job Description

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain powder coating processes to achieve consistent product quality.
  • Establish and update process parameters, work instructions, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Monitor coating thickness, adhesion, curing performance, and surface finish according to customer specifications.
  • Support new product introductions (NPI) by developing suitable powder coating processes.
  • Troubleshoot production issues related to powder coating defects such as orange peel, pinholes, poor adhesion, uneven coating, and color inconsistency.
  • Work closely with the Production team to improve efficiency, productivity, and product quality.
  • Ensure production schedules are achieved while maintaining quality standards.
  • Ensure products comply with customer specifications and industry standards.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for quality issues.
  • Monitor key quality indicators such as rejection rate, rework, and customer complaints.
  • Participate in internal, customer, and external quality audits.

Equipment & Maintenance

  • Monitor the performance of powder coating equipment, including:
  • Spray booths
  • Powder guns
  • Powder recovery systems
  • Conveyor systems
  • Pretreatment lines
  • Curing ovens
  • Coordinate with the Maintenance team for preventive maintenance and equipment improvements.
  • Recommend equipment upgrades to improve process capability.

Continuous Improvement

  • Lead continuous improvement projects to reduce defects, increase productivity, and minimize powder consumption.
  • Implement Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and Kaizen initiatives.
  • Analyze production data and recommend process improvements to reduce operating costs.

Documentation

  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including:
  • Process Flow Charts
  • Control Plans
  • SOPs
  • Work Instructions
  • Process Validation Reports
  • Maintain records of process changes and quality improvements.

Safety & Environmental

  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations and environmental requirements.
  • Promote safe handling, storage, and disposal of powder coating materials and chemicals.
  • Support EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) initiatives within the department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2–5 years of experience in powder coating, paint shop, or surface finishing within a manufacturing environment.
  • Fresh graduates with relevant internship or project experience may be considered for Junior Powder Coating Engineer positions.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of powder coating processes and equipment.
  • Understanding of pretreatment processes, curing profiles, and coating application techniques.
  • Familiarity with powder coating defect analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and customer specifications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Pay: RM3,000.00 - RM6,000.00 per month
