Application Operations Engineer

The role

Our client is building shared financial infrastructure at the point where distributed ledger technology meets institutional finance. Their platform acts as a common data layer for banks and financial institutions, solving problems the industry has lived with for decades: systems that cannot talk to each other, settlement that takes days, and privacy that gets traded away for speed. They are well funded, working with some of the largest financial institutions in the world, and operating across the United States, Asia Pacific and Europe.

You'll own end of day batch coverage for that platform. When a run fails, you're the person who works out what happened, decides who needs to be involved, and keeps everyone informed while it gets fixed.

This is the first support hire in Singapore. You'll form one half of a follow the sun model alongside a counterpart in the United States, and you'll shape how the function works as the team grows.

The platform is Java based, running on AWS with EKS and Postgres.

What you'll do

• Monitor end of day batch runs and act on failures, delays and exceptions
• Read alerts and dashboards, and work out what a triggered alert is actually telling you
• Drill into logs and Java exceptions far enough to characterise a problem, whether that's a data issue, memory pressure, a volume spike or a scaling delay
• Resolve straightforward production issues yourself, and recognise quickly when something needs DevOps or L3 engineering, working to a one hour resolution SLA
• Report incident status in plain English, including to senior and executive stakeholders, where clarity matters more than technical depth
• Raise incident tickets, log preventative actions, and follow them through so agreed fixes actually get delivered

What you'll need

Essential

• 4+ years experience in Production or application support on a large scale, data intensive platform, ideally at a bank, insurer, payments or capital markets business, with a working understanding of concepts such as trading, settlement and dividends
• Hands on experience monitoring and supporting end of day batch processing
• Comfortable reading Java exceptions and stack traces, and interpreting SQL queries and database errors. This is not a development role and you won't be writing code
• Comfortable working in AWS environments
• Fluent written and spoken English and Mandarin, with the speed and clarity to communicate well under pressure
• Based in Singapore and able to cover the early batch window

Nice to have

• Postgres
• Kubernetes or EKS exposure in a support capacity
• Incident and problem management in an ITIL aligned environment
• Ticketing in JIRA or ServiceNow
