Responsibilities
Dietitian (Eating Disorders, Mental Health, & Family Services)
The Wave Young Adults – Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
There are dietitian jobs, and then there are opportunities to help redefine the role of nutrition within specialist mental healthcare.
At The Wave Young Adults, we believe that food is not just food. Nutrition is intertwined with various significant aspects of life. Every meal tells a story, every eating behaviour serves a purpose, and every young person deserves a clinician who is curious enough to understand both. We are looking for an exceptional Dietitian who shares that philosophy and who would like to become part of one of the most innovative multidisciplinary mental health services for children, adolescents and young adults.
This is an opportunity to join one of the world's leading specialist residential and outpatient services for young people experiencing complex mental health presentations. Working alongside psychiatrists, psychologists, family therapists, doctors, nurses, therapeutic life coaches and creative arts therapists, you will become an integral member of our multidisciplinary clinical team, helping young people and their families rediscover safety, confidence and hope whilst contributing to a truly integrated model of care.
Whilst eating disorders form an important part of our service, this is not simply an eating disorders dietetic role. We are looking for a clinician who is passionate about the relationship between nutrition and mental health across a wide range of presentations, including anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, neurodiversity, obsessive compulsive disorder, emerging personality difficulties, substance misuse and emotional dysregulation. You will understand that nutrition influences mood, cognition, sleep, emotional regulation, concentration and overall psychological wellbeing, and that meaningful recovery requires far more than simply restoring weight.
We are seeking a clinician who is equally comfortable discussing nutritional rehabilitation, metabolic restoration and gastrointestinal health as they are exploring emotional eating, perfectionism, body image, sensory sensitivities, shame, family dynamics, cultural beliefs around food and the function that eating behaviours may serve within a young person's life.
The successful candidate will hold an active clinical caseload across our residential and outpatient programmes. Your work will include comprehensive nutritional assessments, individual nutritional therapy, family sessions, multidisciplinary treatment planning and the delivery of engaging psychoeducational and experiential groups. You will contribute to psychological formulations, collaborate closely with therapists and medical colleagues, and ensure that nutritional interventions are seamlessly integrated within each young person's wider treatment programme.
Families are central to everything we do. Nutritional recovery rarely occurs in isolation, and our dietitians work closely with parents and carers to reduce anxiety, increase confidence around supporting recovery and create sustainable change beyond discharge. Whether helping parents navigate mealtime challenges, rebuilding trust around food, supporting family meals or providing practical education, you will play a vital role in strengthening the entire family system.
Food is also a central part of everyday therapeutic life at The Wave. Our dietitians are actively involved within the residential environment rather than working from behind a clinic door. You will collaborate closely with our kitchen team to develop menus, ensure nutritional adequacy, oversee meal planning and contribute to creating meals that are both therapeutically meaningful and genuinely enjoyable. You will also work alongside therapeutic life coaches during supported meals, helping to translate nutritional recommendations into everyday therapeutic practice.
Innovation sits at the heart of everything we do. We are looking for someone who enjoys creating new ideas rather than simply delivering existing programmes. Whether that involves supermarket exposure work, cooking experiences, intuitive eating groups, body image workshops, nutrition myth-busting, sensory exploration for ARFID, movement and performance nutrition, gut-brain education, family cooking sessions or collaborative projects with our creative arts and movement programmes, we welcome clinicians who enjoy thinking differently.
We also believe dietitians should contribute beyond direct clinical work. The successful candidate will have opportunities to develop educational resources, contribute to service development, support team training, participate in programme design and help shape the future direction of nutritional care as our organisation continues to grow internationally.
This role extends beyond weekday working. Recovery does not pause at weekends, and therefore we are looking for someone who is happy to work across a flexible rota including daytime, evenings and weekend clinical leadership where required. Our aim is to ensure that therapeutic consistency remains present throughout every stage of treatment.
We would particularly welcome applications from clinicians with experience working within eating disorders, ARFID, binge eating disorder, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, trauma, neurodiversity, gastrointestinal disorders, mood disorders and complex adolescent mental health presentations. Experience working with children, adolescents, young adults and family systems would be highly valued, although we are ultimately looking for someone with warmth, intellectual curiosity, flexibility and outstanding clinical judgement.
Applicants should hold a recognised qualification in Dietetics and be eligible for professional registration within Malaysia or able to obtain the relevant registration. Additional experience or training within eating disorders, Family-Based Treatment (FBT), Motivational Interviewing, CBT-E, DBT-informed practice, trauma-informed care or sports and performance nutrition would be advantageous, although ongoing professional development is actively encouraged and supported.
At The Wave, we believe that every discipline brings something unique to the treatment journey. We are looking for a dietitian who enjoys working shoulder-to-shoulder with psychologists, psychiatrists, family therapists, nurses, occupational therapists and therapeutic life coaches; someone who values curiosity over certainty, collaboration over hierarchy and relationships over rigid protocols.
As our organisation continues to expand internationally, opportunities continue to emerge for leadership, programme development, specialist interests, teaching, research and international transfers for colleagues wishing to grow their careers with us. We actively encourage clinicians to bring their own passions, specialist interests and innovative ideas into the service, believing that exceptional programmes are built by exceptional people who are trusted to create.
In return we offer an above-average remuneration package, complimentary meals whilst on duty, complimentary on-site parking, ongoing professional development, specialist clinical supervision, opportunities to shape innovative treatment programmes and the chance to work alongside an exceptional multidisciplinary team committed to raising standards in child, adolescent and young adult mental healthcare.
If you are excited by the opportunity to help redefine nutritional therapy within specialist mental health services, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Please send your CV together with a covering letter outlining your experience, clinical interests and what attracts you to working at The Wave Young Adults.

Shortlisted candidates will also be expected to demonstrate their clinical reasoning, discuss previous clinical work and participate in a values-based interview process centred around our commitment to young people, families and collaborative multidisciplinary care.
We are proud to be an equal opportunities employer and actively encourage applications from clinicians who share our commitment to compassionate, family-centred, evidence-informed care.
