Job Summary
The Specialist, Engineering – Welding serves as the technical authority for all welding processes within SAESL. The role is responsible for welding process ownership, engineering governance, and continuous improvement to ensure compliance with Rolls-Royce, NADCAP, and other applicable industry standards while achieving business objectives in Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC).
The incumbent provides technical leadership in welding process development, qualification, and troubleshooting, ensuring robust, controlled, and efficient manufacturing processes. The role also serves as the primary liaison between Engineering, Production, Quality, and Equipment Maintenance Services (EMS) on welding processes, defect prevention, equipment calibration, maintenance, and repair to support safe, reliable, and high-quality operations.
Job Responsibilities
- Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and engineering authority for welding processes.
- Develop, review, and approve welding process parameters, standards, repair methods, and technical requirements.
- Ensure weld repair validations comply with Rolls-Royce, NADCAP, and AWS D17.1 requirements.
- Verify and maintain welder and welding operator certifications in accordance with AWS D17.1.
- Design and develop welding jigs, fixtures, and tooling to improve productivity, automation, and process capability.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation to support manufacturing and repair activities.
- Lead the development and optimisation of welding processes to meet quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical support and turnkey solutions for complex welding-related manufacturing issues.
- Review and approve engineering-controlled documents, including Process Data Cards (PDCs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and process deviations.
- Act as the engineering focal point for NADCAP and Part 145 audits, supporting audit preparation, execution, and closure of findings.
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventive actions for welding-related non-conformances.
- Ensure compliance with Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) standards and support the Company's Zero Harm programme.
- Promote a zero-defect culture by developing manufacturing processes that support Right First Time (RFT) quality, delivery, and product safety.
- Support operational performance by improving productivity, reducing the Cost of Non-Quality (CONQ), and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualification / Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in industrial welding processes, preferably in the aerospace industry.
- Strong knowledge of welding processes, standards, and best practices.
- Experience with NADCAP compliance and audit requirements.
- Strong analytical, technical problem-solving (e.g. Six Sigma), and project management skills.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
