Application Development and Support Engineer – Java, Unix & Oracle PL/SQL
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced L3 Application Development and Support Engineer to provide production support for critical enterprise applications. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in Unix/Linux, Shell Scripting, Oracle PL/SQL, Java, and AutoSys, with the ability to troubleshoot complex application and production issues.
This role requires strong technical troubleshooting skills, ownership of production incidents, root cause analysis, batch monitoring, and close collaboration with development, infrastructure, database, and business teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide L2/L3 production and application support for business-critical applications.
- Monitor application health, production processes, interfaces, and scheduled batch jobs.
- Investigate and resolve production incidents, application failures, performance issues, and data-related problems.
- Perform troubleshooting using Unix/Linux commands, Shell scripts, SQL/PLSQL, application logs, and Java logs.
- Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot Unix/Shell scripts used for application operations and batch processing.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and manage batch jobs and dependencies using AutoSys.
- Write and optimise Oracle SQL and PL/SQL queries, procedures, functions, and scripts for troubleshooting and production support.
- Troubleshoot Java-based applications, including application errors, exceptions, logs, interfaces, and integration issues.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring and high-impact production incidents and implement preventive measures.
- Support application deployments, releases, configuration changes, patches, and production validation.
- Coordinate with development, database, infrastructure, middleware, and business teams to resolve complex incidents.
- Handle incident, problem, and change management processes in line with ITIL practices.
- Maintain production support documentation, operational procedures, runbooks, and knowledge-base articles.
- Participate in on-call/after-hours production support when required.

- Experience with REST APIs, web services, and application integrations
- Familiarity with Control-M or other enterprise schedulers
- Knowledge of middleware and messaging technologies
- Git and CI/CD exposure

- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose production issues quickly.
- Comfortable working across Java applications, Unix environments, Oracle databases, Shell scripts, and AutoSys jobs.
- Able to independently manage L2 incidents and perform deeper L3-level technical investigation.
- Strong ownership mindset for production stability and incident resolution.
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively with technical teams and business stakeholders.
