Work Arrangement:
EMEA Hours 08:00 – 17:00 (UTC +01:00) or Malaysian Hours from 3:00PM - 12:00AM.
You may need to support on-call and out of hours support.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and administer enterprise backup and recovery systems, ensuring stable and secure daily operations.
- Take ownership of specific backup platforms and/or complex operational processes, including incident, problem, and change handling.
- Configure and maintain backup policies, schedules, retention rules, and restore procedures in line with internal standards and compliance requirements.
- Perform and coordinate restore activities for business‑critical systems and applications, including support during disaster recovery tests and real incidents.
- Analyze backup and restore failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive measures.
- Contribute to performance tuning and optimization of backup environments regarding throughput, capacity, and availability.
- Support the implementation of new backup solutions, upgrades, and migrations in collaboration with architects and project teams.
- Maintain and improve operational documentation, runbooks, and procedures related to backup and recovery.
- Collaborate with internal customers and application owners to ensure their backup and restore requirements are understood and fulfilled.
- Provide out-of-hours and on-call support in exceptional cases to ensure operational continuity.
Skills and Qualifications
- Extensive experience in enterprise data backup and recovery administration.
- Knowledge of Rubrik and Versity/ScoutAM is a significant advantage; experience with additional enterprise backup tools is beneficial.
- Solid experience in IT operations with proven responsibility for systems and/or complex processes.
- Strong understanding of agent-based backup concepts (e.g., Exchange, MS SQL, Oracle) and snapshot-based backup and restore.
- Good knowledge of Bare Metal Restore (BMR) concepts is a plus.
- Good knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Windows operating systems.
- Familiarity with ITIL-based IT service management processes (incident, problem, change, request) is an advantage.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills in complex backup and restore environments.
- Advanced English communication skills, spoken and written; German is an advantage.
Programming & Automation Skills
- Basic programming skills in Python.
- Basic experience with Ansible for automation and configuration management.
- Knowledge of the Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) is a plus.
