Process Safety Engineer, APAC


The Process Safety Engineer is responsible for ensuring compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) regulations, company requirements and relevant safety standards. The role oversees process safety programmes including PHA, LOPA, MOC, PSSR, ATEX zoning, audits, incident investigations, training and continuous improvement initiatives. You will manage process safety risks, support evolving standards and foster a strong process safety culture through close collaboration with internal teams, regulatory agencies and external stakeholders.


The Position:

  • Drive continuous improve of the Process Safety Management (PSM) programme and process safety risk analysis activities, as required
  • Schedule, lead and document Process Hazard Analysis (PHA)/hazard evaluation sessions for both new and existing processes
  • Perform Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) to assess whether incident scenario risks are sufficiently mitigated in line with company requirements
  • Facilitate and participate in compliance review audits with government agencies and third-party personnel
  • Maintain proactive and positive relationships with regulatory agencies, trade organisations and community stakeholders
  • Develop, implement and deliver process safety training while monitoring compliance with training requirements
  • Conduct technical reviews of new projects and process changes to identify and communicate potential process safety implications
  • Report process safety incidents to management, lead investigations related to incidents and near misses and coordinate corrective actions based on investigation findings
  • Provide oversight of the Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-Start-up Safety Review (PSSR) processes
  • Monitor documentation to ensure compliance with process safety requirements including written procedures, Process Safety Information (PSI) and closure of PHA and audit action items
  • Conduct site Atmospheres Explosives (ATEX) zoning and equipment classification assessments
  • Facilitate and participate in insurance site surveys relating to process safety actions
  • Perform other duties as assigned


The Ideal Candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced qualification in Chemical, Process, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience in Oil & Gas, Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Flavors & Fragrance manufacturing or similar process-driven environment
  • Strong knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) regulations, standards and requirements
  • Hands-on experience leading PSM activities in a chemical manufacturing facility, QC laboratory and/or R&D laboratory
  • Experience working in a multicultural and matrix organization
  • Experience in Pre-Start-up Safety Reviews (PSSR) and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) including HAZOP studies
  • Strong understanding of process safety safeguards including interlocks, Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), mechanical protection and inherently safer design principles.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage cross functional and diverse stakeholders effectively
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and risk assessment skills
