Job Description

Responsibilities

Quantity Surveyor (QS) – Job Description

A Quantity Surveyor (QS) is responsible for managing the contractual and financial aspects of construction projects to ensure that projects are completed within budget and in accordance with contractual requirements. The QS is involved throughout the project lifecycle, from pre-contract tendering to post-contract administration and final account settlement.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Contract Stage

  • Prepare cost estimates, cost plans and budgets.
  • Take off quantities and prepare Bills of Quantities (BQ).
  • Prepare tender documents, specifications and schedules of rates.
  • Assist in formulating procurement and tender strategies.
  • Invite, evaluate and analyse tender submissions.
  • Conduct value engineering and cost studies.

Post-Contract Stage

  • Prepare and assess progress claims and interim valuations.
  • Measure and evaluate variation orders and claims.
  • Monitor project costs and cash flow.
  • Administer contracts and provide contractual advice.
  • Attend project meetings and liaise with clients, consultants and contractors.
  • Prepare and negotiate final accounts.
  • Contract Administration
  • Review contract conditions and identify project risks.
  • Maintain project cost records and prepare cost reports.
  • Manage disputes, extension-of-time claims and loss-and-expense claims.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and contract requirements.
  • Requirements
  • Educational Qualifications
  • Degree or diploma in Quantity Surveying, Building, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related disciplines.

    Relevant experience in quantity surveying, cost management or contract administration.

    Quantity take-off and measurement.

  • Cost estimation and budgeting.
  • Tender preparation and evaluation.
  • Contract administration and claims management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and QS software

  • Good communication and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
