Job Description: System Engineer

Position: System Engineer

Department: IT Infrastructure / Systems

Location: Malaysia

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled System Engineer responsible for designing, implementing,

managing, and optimizing enterprise IT infrastructure across Microsoft and Linux platforms.

The role requires deep technical expertise in virtualization, storage, identity systems, and

performance optimization, along with strong troubleshooting and automation capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

1. System Platform Engineering.

• Microsoft (Windows Server) and Linux environments (RHEL, Ubuntu, etc.)
• Enterprise platforms including VMware virtualization infrastructure
• Configure and maintain IIS, LAMP, and WAMP stacks
• Perform system updates, patching, upgrades, and migrations

2. Identity & Access Management

• Manage and maintain Active Directory (AD) including:

1. Domain services, replication, and Group Policy Objects (GPO)

2. DNS/DHCP integration

• Integrate on-prem AD with Microsoft Entra ID
• Administer Microsoft 365 (M365 E3) backend as Global Admin
• Configure Exchange environments, including:

1. Mail flow, gateways, and transport rules

2. Endpoints and client connectivity

3. Database Availability Groups (DAGs)

3. Storage & File Systems

• Design, implement, and manage:

1. Enterprise storage systems (SAN/NAS)

2. Local File Systems (NTFS, EXT4, XFS, etc.)

3. Network File Systems (NFS, SMB/CIFS)

• Optimize storage performance and capacity planning
• Perform backup and restore operations across systems

4. Networking & IP Management

• Manage IP Address Management (IPAM) solutions
• Understand network dependencies for system performance
• Support DNS, routing, and connectivity troubleshooting

5. Database & Application Support

• Microsoft SQL Server databases

1. Installation, configuration, backup, and performance tuning

• Support application hosting environments and dependencies

6. Monitoring & Performance Optimization

• Implement and manage monitoring tools such as Nagios (full lifecycle)
• Analyze system performance:

1. CPU, memory, disk I/O, and network utilization

• Conduct performance tuning and capacity planning

7. Automation & Scripting

• Develop scripts using:

1. PowerShell, Bash

• Automate routine administrative and monitoring tasks

8. Troubleshooting & Incident Management

• Perform root cause analysis using:

1. System logs and event logs

2. Monitoring tools and metrics

• Resolve complex system, storage, and network issues

9. Governance & Compliance

• Manage software and system licensing compliance
• Maintain documentation for configurations, procedures, and architectures
• Ensure adherence to security and operational policies

Technical Skills & Requirements

Mandatory Skills

• Strong expertise in:

1. Microsoft & Linux platforms

2. VMware virtualization

3. Active Directory (advanced level)

4. Storage systems and file systems

5. Backup & restore strategies

• Experience with:

1. Microsoft SQL Server

2. Microsoft server components.

3. Microsoft M365E3 components.

4. Nagios monitoring system components

5. Exchange architecture (DAG, transport, gateways)

6. Microsoft 365 & Entra ID configuration
