We are looking for a proactive and service-oriented Science & School Operations Assistant to provide administrative, operational, and laboratory support within a school environment. This role plays an important part in ensuring the smooth operation of the Science Department and General Office while contributing to a safe, welcoming, and efficient learning environment for students, staff, parents, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
Science Laboratory Support
- Prepare, set up, and clear laboratory apparatus, materials, and equipment for Science lessons and practical activities.
- Assist teachers in preparing resources for practical investigations, demonstrations, STEM programmes, and enrichment activities.
- Maintain cleanliness, organisation, and readiness of laboratories and preparation rooms.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of laboratory equipment, consumables, chemicals, and teaching resources.
- Coordinate stock replenishment and support bi-annual stock-taking exercises.
- Conduct routine checks on laboratory equipment and report maintenance issues.
- Ensure proper storage, handling, and disposal of laboratory materials in accordance with safety guidelines.
- Perform regular safety checks and promptly report hazards.
General Office Support
- Serve as the first point of contact for parents, visitors, vendors, and stakeholders.
- Handle enquiries professionally via face-to-face interactions, telephone, and email.
- Manage visitor registration and ensure compliance with school security procedures.
- Provide administrative support including filing, documentation, record-keeping, data entry, scheduling, and appointment coordination.
- Prepare reports, letters, forms, and other administrative documents.
- Provide logistical support for school meetings, programmes, and events.
Department & School Support
- Support Science Department and Environment Education Strategic Foci Team programmes, including STEM activities, exhibitions, learning journeys, enrichment programmes, and school events.
- Work closely with teachers, school leaders, operations staff, and external vendors.
- Build positive working relationships and provide timely support to stakeholders.
- Perform other duties assigned by the School Leaders, Operations Manager, or Heads of Department.
Requirements
- Minimum Secondary School education.
- At least 3 years of relevant working experience in laboratory operations, administration, customer service, or a school environment.
- Basic knowledge of laboratory procedures and safety practices.
- Familiarity with office administration processes.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Organised, responsible, and able to work independently as well as in a team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications is an advantage.
Working Hours
During School Term
- Monday to Friday: 6.45 AM – 4.15 PM
- Includes a 60-minute lunch break
During School Holidays
- Monday to Friday: 7.30 AM – 5.00 PM
- Includes a 60-minute lunch break
- June Holidays: Work required only during the first and last weeks (middle two weeks off).
- December Holidays: Work required only during the first and last weeks (middle three weeks off).
