Protection & Controls Technical Lead
Singapore – site-based at a mission-critical facility
SGD 9,350–11,500 per month
Permanent position
ETAP, PSCAD, SIPROTEC 5, DIGSI 5 and SEL expertise are the core of this role. Lead protection studies, relay engineering and controls integration across large-scale power infrastructure — not generic electrical project management.
About the role
You will act as the specialist technical authority for electrical protection, controls, relay engineering and power-system analysis across mission-critical electrical programmes.
The role combines deep hands-on engineering with design assurance, product development and technical leadership across internal teams, consultants and specialist vendors.
Key responsibilities
- Build power-system models and complete studies using ETAP and PSCAD.
- Deliver grounding, CT and VT sizing, voltage-drop and related electrical calculations.
- Configure, programme and test Siemens SIPROTEC 5 protection relays using DIGSI 5.
- Programme and integrate SEL protection relays, automation controllers and RTACs.
- Work with SEL-3530, SEL-3505, SEL Grid Configurator and RTAC software.
- Configure, maintain and review SCD files.
- Lead protection coordination, relay settings and controls integration.
- Review electrical drawings, technical documentation and vendor submissions.
- Assess design quality, coordination, compliance and constructability.
- Apply relevant IEC and ANSI/NEMA standards.
- Escalate technical issues affecting cost, quality or programme.
- Maintain technical risk, issue and mitigation trackers.
- Lead technical meetings and provide clear engineering direction.
- Support defect resolution, punch-list closure and final inspections.
- Update owner specifications, relay programming documents and controlled deliverables.
- Manage revisions and final documentation uploads.
- Product and system scope
You may support the development and delivery of:
- Switchgear and transformer systems.
- Energy-storage and microgrid solutions.
- Large-scale AC and DC infrastructure.
- Protection, controls and automation systems.
- Mission-critical electrical facilities.
- Requirements
- Strong experience in electrical protection and controls engineering.
- Advanced working knowledge of ETAP and PSCAD.
- Hands-on Siemens SIPROTEC 5 and DIGSI 5 experience.
- Experience programming and integrating SEL relays and RTACs.
- Understanding of protection studies, relay settings, CT/VT sizing and grounding calculations.
- Experience working with SCD files and substation automation environments.
- Strong knowledge of IEC and ANSI/NEMA electrical standards.
- Ability to review, challenge and approve complex electrical designs and technical documentation.
- Desirable background
- Experience with SEL-3530, SEL-3505 and SEL Grid Configurator.
- Background in data centres, utilities, substations, microgrids or mission-critical power systems.
- Experience developing standardised electrical products or engineering specifications.
- Exposure to energy storage, high-capacity switchgear or large-scale AC/DC systems.
- Experience managing technical vendors, design consultants and engineering deliverables.
Best-Fit Candidates / Useful Matching Context
This role is best suited to a Protection Engineer, Protection & Controls Lead, Power Systems Engineer, Relay Engineer, Substation Automation Engineer or Electrical Automation Specialist.
Relevant candidates may come from utilities, OEMs, grid consultancies, protection-relay manufacturers, hyperscale data centres, specialist electrical contractors or mission-critical engineering consultancies.
This is not designed for generic Electrical Project Managers without direct relay configuration, protection-study and controls experience.
