Job Description

Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Assembly Process Engineer to lead the development, validation, optimization, and scale-up of advanced manufacturing processes for optical fiber assemblies, precision components, and photonics products. This role is critical in driving New Product Introduction (NPI), process innovation, manufacturing excellence, and continuous improvement within a semiconductor cleanroom and high-precision manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in process engineering, fiber optic assembly, cleanroom manufacturing, Lean Six Sigma methodologies, and production scale-up, with a passion for delivering high-quality, cost-effective, and reliable manufacturing solutions.

What You'll Do

  • Develop, validate, and optimize fiber optic assembly, termination, and polishing processes to achieve high product quality, yield, and manufacturability.
  • Design and implement ultra-clean assembly workflows in semiconductor cleanroom environments.
  • Lead process development, technology transfer, and production scale-up for new optical and precision products.
  • Drive New Product Introduction (NPI) activities and support Design for Manufacturability (DFM) initiatives.
  • Establish process specifications, cleanliness standards, and manufacturing controls to ensure consistent production performance.
  • Lead process validation, equipment qualification, risk assessments, and tooling development activities.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to enhance productivity, quality, yield, and cost efficiency.
  • Apply Lean Six Sigma methodologies including DOE, SPC, FMEA, 8D, and Root Cause Analysis to solve manufacturing challenges.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, and Engineering to meet project objectives.
  • Support customer technical discussions, issue resolution, and escalation management.
  • Train and mentor technicians and production personnel on manufacturing processes and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards, including laser safety and cleanroom protocols.
  • Support supplier qualification, process transfer, and manufacturing readiness activities.

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Optical Engineering, Photonics, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Precision Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing, process engineering, or production engineering within optical, photonics, semiconductor, laser, or precision manufacturing environments.
  • Hands-on experience with process development, NPI, manufacturing scale-up, and process validation.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean Six Sigma tools and methodologies including DOE, SPC, FMEA, 8D, and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Experience working in cleanroom, semiconductor, or other highly controlled manufacturing environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while balancing quality, cost, and delivery objectives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with optical fiber assembly, fiber termination, polishing processes, or photonics manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of laser systems, optical products, and contamination control techniques.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, AS9100, or similar quality management systems.
  • Experience using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other CAD software.
  • Exposure to ERP systems such as SAP.
  • Experience supporting customer-facing technical discussions and manufacturing transfers.
