  • Set up shared storage, job schedulers (e.g., SLURM), and cluster resource managers
  • Deploy and maintain bioinformatics environments (e.g., Conda, Docker, Singularity)
  • Install and update key genomics tools (e.g., BWA, GATK, FastQC, STAR)
  • Manage and mirror reference genomic databases (e.g., NCBI, Ensembl)
  • Set up and manage user accounts, access rights, and User Management Systems (UMS)
  • Implement and maintain resource management and monitoring tools (e.g., SLURM accounting, Prometheus, Grafana)
  • Ensure system reliability, security, backups, and performance tuning
  • Lead deployment projects and provide training to end-users
  • Support both internal bioinformatics teams and client-side IT departments
  • Collaborate with public and private sector partners on genomics infrastructure solutions

Requirements:

  • Strong skills in Linux/Unix system administration
  • Experience with HPC systems, cloud-HPC integration, or server setup
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and genomics workflows
  • Experience with containerization (Docker/Singularity) and job schedulers (e.g., SLURM)
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware components (CPU/GPU/Storage)
  • Experience with monitoring tools and resource managers

Soft Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Good communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Able to work independently and in cross-functional teams

Bonus (Preferred but not required):

  • Experience in genomics, healthcare, or life sciences infrastructure
  • Familiarity with data compliance/security requirements in genomics
  • Prior work with government or research institutions

Why Join Us:

  • Be part of building Malaysia’s genomics infrastructure
  • Work at the intersection of bioinformatics, systems engineering, and real-world genomics applications
  • Get hands-on training and mentoring in HPC for genomics
  • Contribute to meaningful projects in human, agriculture, and environmental genomics
