We are hiring a Genomics HPC Specialist to lead the deployment, configuration, and management of High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments for genomics and bioinformatics applications.
This is a hands-on technical role ideal for those passionate about computing infrastructure and biological data. Training will be provided, and fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
- Install and configure Linux-based HPC clusters for genomics workloads
- Optimize CPU/GPU usage for bioinformatics pipelines (e.g., variant calling, assembly)
- Set up shared storage, job schedulers (e.g., SLURM), and cluster resource managers
- Deploy and maintain bioinformatics environments (e.g., Conda, Docker, Singularity)
- Install and update key genomics tools (e.g., BWA, GATK, FastQC, STAR)
- Manage and mirror reference genomic databases (e.g., NCBI, Ensembl)
- Set up and manage user accounts, access rights, and User Management Systems (UMS)
- Implement and maintain resource management and monitoring tools (e.g., SLURM accounting, Prometheus, Grafana)
- Ensure system reliability, security, backups, and performance tuning
- Lead deployment projects and provide training to end-users
- Support both internal bioinformatics teams and client-side IT departments
- Collaborate with public and private sector partners on genomics infrastructure solutions
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Engineering, or a related field
- Strong skills in Linux/Unix system administration
- Experience with HPC systems, cloud-HPC integration, or server setup
- Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and genomics workflows
- Experience with containerization (Docker/Singularity) and job schedulers (e.g., SLURM)
- Ability to troubleshoot hardware components (CPU/GPU/Storage)
- Experience with monitoring tools and resource managers
Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Good communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Able to work independently and in cross-functional teams
Bonus (Preferred but not required):
- Experience in genomics, healthcare, or life sciences infrastructure
- Familiarity with data compliance/security requirements in genomics
- Prior work with government or research institutions
