Junior Quantitative Analyst
We are working with a leading commodities trading firm seeking a Junior Quantitative Analyst to join a front-office trading desk.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career quantitative professional to work closely with experienced traders, contributing to strategy development, market analysis, and trading performance within a fast-paced environment. The role sits at the intersection of quantitative development and trading analysis, so it will suit someone who combines strong technical capability with a genuine passion for markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and enhance quantitative models and trading strategies
- Analyse large datasets to identify market opportunities and generate insights
- Monitor trading activity, strategy performance, and risk metrics
- Support trade execution and ongoing optimisation of systematic processes
- Collaborate closely with traders and stakeholders to improve decision-making and trading outcomes
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or above in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, or a related highly technical discipline (engineering or similarly technical backgrounds are particularly well suited)
- Strong C++ programming skills; this is a core requirement for the role
- Strong Python programming skills
- Solid understanding of machine learning and statistical techniques
- Experience working with large datasets and data-driven analysis
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Genuine interest in financial markets and trading, ideally demonstrated through self-initiated trading- or technology-related projects outside of academic or professional work (e.g. personal trading strategies, backtesting frameworks, market data tools, open-source contributions)
Preferred
- Experience within commodities, trading, energy, or a related market-facing environment
- Relevant internships in quantitative research, trading, analytics, or financial markets
- Exposure to systematic trading, quantitative modelling, or market analysis
- A portfolio of personal or side projects related to trading, markets, or technology
