Job Description

Responsibilities

The IT Manager is responsible for the secure and reliable operation of the organisation’s IT infrastructure, systems, devices and user support services.

This is a hands-on individual contributor role suited to someone comfortable working as the sole or near-sole internal IT resource in a lean organisation. The role covers Windows Server, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, networks, cybersecurity, hardware, employee onboarding and offboarding, vendors and IT documentation.


Key Responsibilities

IT Infrastructure and Systems

  • Manage servers, networks, endpoints, cloud services and business-critical systems.
  • Administer Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, user accounts and permissions.
  • Monitor system performance, storage, backups and availability.
  • Maintain backup, disaster recovery and business continuity procedures.
  • Administer Microsoft 365 and Exchange, including user accounts, mailboxes, shared mailboxes, distribution groups and licences.


Network and Cybersecurity

  • Manage routers, switches, wireless networks, firewalls, VPNs and internet connectivity.
  • Maintain firewall rules, remote access, firmware and security settings.
  • Coordinate patching, endpoint protection, security updates and vulnerability remediation.


Hardware and Employee Lifecycle

  • Manage the full lifecycle of laptops, desktops, mobile devices and related equipment.
  • Maintain accurate asset, warranty, licence and user-assignment records.
  • Set up accounts, devices, applications and access for new employees.


IT Support and Business Systems

  • Serve as the main point of contact for day-to-day IT support.
  • Resolve hardware, software, network, email, system and access issues.
  • Coordinate testing, upgrades, integrations and issue resolution with vendors.


Vendor, Cost and Documentation Management

  • Manage IT vendors, hosting providers and system suppliers.
  • Maintain software, cloud-service, licence and renewal records.
  • Develop and maintain IT policies, SOPs, checklists, runbooks and system documentation.
  • Keep records of system configurations, assets, access, vendors and disaster recovery processes current.


Requirements

Essential Experience

  • Approximately 5 to 8 years of experience in IT infrastructure, systems administration, IT operations or user support.
  • Hands-on experience with physical Windows Servers, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, Microsoft 365 and Exchange.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Microsoft 365, Exchange, Active Directory, Group Policy and DNS.
  • Good understanding of TCP/IP, DHCP, VPNs, wireless networks, firewalls and internet connectivity.
  • Experience with endpoint security, patching, backups, disaster recovery and access controls.
  • Ability to troubleshoot across hardware, servers, networks, email, identity and business applications.
  • Understanding of IT asset management, cybersecurity, data protection and technology risk.


Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Business Information Systems or a related discipline.
  • Relevant Microsoft, networking, ITIL, firewall, cloud or cybersecurity certifications are advantageous.
  • Equivalent practical experience may be considered.
