Senior Engineer, Piping Material

We are currently based at KL Eco City, Malaysia.

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Engineer, Piping Material to independently lead piping material engineering activities and deliver critical project deliverables. The role supports full project life cycle needs including potential short-term assignments to Construction, Commissioning, and Offshore ensuring compliance with technical requirements, timelines, and budgets. You will resolve technical issues proactively and guide junior engineers/designers, sharing knowledge and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze engineering issues, interpret data, and implement solutions with minimal guidance.
• Apply project specs, local regulations, Classification rules, and industry codes to deliver piping scope.
• Perform and document pipe wall thickness calculations per design codes.
• Develop piping material and valve specs, tailored from MODEC corporate standards.
• Prepare insulation and flange management (torque/tension) specifications.
• Produce BOMs for bulk items, valves, specials, gaskets, studs/nuts, and supports; provide unit weights.
• Create data sheets for critical and non-critical specials; validate required process inputs.
• Issue material requisitions for bulk items, valves, specials, gaskets, studs/nuts, spring supports, cargo tank heating coils (marine), and valve remote control systems (marine).
• Conduct technical bid evaluations; recommend technically compliant vendors.
• Lead supplier kick-offs; review documents and coordinate integration into piping layouts/designs.
• Resolve supplier/contractor technical issues; plan and witness FATs as needed.
• Support construction and commissioning teams on-site and remotely to maintain schedule and quality.
• Assist Lead Piping Engineer; capture and submit lessons learned via MIMS.
• Adhere to HSEQ requirements, quality standards, and MODEC’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.
  
  

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering (minimum 12 years relevant experience in oil & gas piping engineering, preferably FPSO/offshore), or Master’s in Engineering (minimum 10 years relevant experience)

• MS Office, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Material Management System (SPMAT, AVEVA ERM)

• Mainly in the office environment. Occasional visits may be required to supplier/manufacturing facilities. Visits or short-term posting to fabrication yard, project site, or offshore facility
