Our client, a Singapore-based subsidiary of a leading international energy group, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join as a Chartering Manager. This role offers a strong opportunity for candidates with a network or connection with potential clients within the petroleum industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support end-to-end chartering activities for clean and dirty petroleum product shipments, ensuring efficient vessel deployment and commercial execution across spot, COA, and time-charter markets.
- Coordinate closely with trading, operations, and other internal teams to match cargo requirements with suitable tanker tonnage across MR, LR, Aframax, Suezmax, and VLCC segments.
- Negotiate freight, hire, and charterparty terms with external counterparties, including shipowners and brokers, and independently execute fixtures.
- Monitor vessel positions, cargo programs, and tanker freight market conditions to support timely and optimal chartering decisions.
- Develop and implement vessel employment strategies to maximise fleet utilisation, earnings, and voyage efficiency, including optimisation of triangulation and backhaul opportunities.
- Analyse voyage economics, TCE performance, and alternative employment options to support commercial decision-making and profitability improvements.
- Provide regular tanker market intelligence, including supply-demand trends, refinery activity, trade flows, and geopolitical developments, to support strategy and forecasting.
- Identify and develop commercial opportunities such as cargo contracts, COAs, time-charters, and strategic partnerships to drive business growth.
- Assess and manage commercial risks including sanctions, regulatory compliance, and counterparty exposure to ensure secure trading operations.
- Maintain accurate records of fixtures, voyage performance, and freight P&L, and support internal reporting and stakeholder communication.
Requirements:
- Bachelor in Maritime, International Trade, Business Administration or related studies
- Minimum 8+ years of experience in tanker chartering, covering clean petroleum products (CPP) and/or crude tanker markets, with strong understanding of charterparty terms, laytime, demurrage, and freight settlement.
- Proven experience in P&L management within tanker shipping, with strong capability in freight market analysis, voyage economics, and commercial strategy development.
- Strong commercial network across shipowners, brokers, oil majors, commodity traders, and national oil companies (NOCs).
- Familiarity with chartering and voyage management systems preferred.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and multitasking skills, with the ability to manage multiple fixtures and commercial commitments simultaneously.
