Role Overview: Lead the mechanical design of next-generation robotic kitchen systems while sustaining current product lines. Drive the development lifecycle from concept to mass production, ensuring food safety, regulatory compliance, and high-quality culinary automation.
Core Responsibilities
Design & Development
Lead the mechanical design of complex mechatronic hardware and robotic kitchen modules from concept to New Product Introduction (NPI) and mass production.
Create and modify detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using Solid Edge.
Work closely with Electrical Engineers, and Software teams to balance design intent, functionality, and manufacturability.
Testing & Validation
Develop and execute test plans for design validation, reliability testing (e.g., thermal, lifecycle of moving parts), and quality issue resolution.
Ensure all mechanical designs comply with relevant food safety, electrical, and international regulatory standards.
Sustaining & Leadership
Provide support for current generation robots, troubleshoot manufacturing/field issues, implement design improvements, and drive cost-reduction initiatives.
Drive Design for Manufacturability, Design for Assembly, and hygienic design reviews for both new and existing automated systems.
Identify and communicate clear project goals and plans to stakeholders, and mentor junior mechanical engineers.
Job Requirements
Technical Competencies
Expert proficiency in 3D CAD software, specifically Solid Edge.
Deep understanding of manufacturing processes including sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, plastic injection molding, and die casting.
Strong, proven experience in automation techniques for component inspection and assembly.
Proven experience designing products for regulatory compliance, including appropriate material selection and hygienic design principles.
Hands-on experience in designing or assembling mechanical parts, mechatronic/automation sub-systems, or system integration is a strong plus.
Experience with engineering analysis (FEA, thermal, tolerance stack-ups) is a strong plus.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
5-8+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in robotics, commercial food equipment, or complex electromechanical products.
Self-motivated and a self-starter with excellent time management skills, an ambitious spirit, and a proven record of successful execution. Ability to clearly explain technical issues.
