Job Description

Responsibilities

We are looking for a Content Strategist who can take a business objective, turn it into a clear content plan, and stay responsible until the work is published.

This role sits at the crossroads of brand strategy and content creation. A content calendar is not a strategy. Writing the caption is not the whole job either.

While you may not be expected to manage the client relationship day to day, you will work closely with clients, question the brief, join discussions when needed, and understand what the client’s business is trying to achieve. Then you take ownership of the content.

That means deciding what the brand should talk about, why the audience should care, which formats make sense, how each idea should be expressed, and whether the final work still serves the original objective. You will help define and shape the messaging for a campaign. You may write the copy yourself. You may prepare interview questions, shape a story from a conversation, develop a video concept, write a script, brief a designer, organise the publishing schedule, or work with other creators to produce the content. The job does not end when the words are written.

You are expected to care about the design, the edit, the post, the timing and how the whole piece comes together. You do not need to be the designer or video editor, but you must have enough judgement to know when the final work is weak, unclear or off-strategy.

And once the content is live, you should want to know what happened. What did people respond to? What did they ignore? What should we repeat, stop or change next?

This role is for someone who thinks.

What you will be responsible for:

  • Understanding the client’s business, brand, audience and marketing objectives.
  • Defining and shaping campaign messages, content narratives and brand points of view.
  • Turning campaign and brand objectives into content strategies and practical content plans.
  • Developing content themes, narratives, formats, series and publishing ideas.
  • Conducting research and finding useful cultural, consumer or category insights.
  • Preparing interview angles, questions, scripts, storyboards and content briefs.
  • Writing and editing social posts, articles, video scripts, campaign copy and other content.
  • Working with Brand Executives, designers, video teams and other specialists to produce the work.
  • Reviewing the complete output, including copy, design, format and presentation.
  • Publishing or coordinating the publishing of content across relevant platforms.
  • Protecting consistency in brand voice, message and strategic direction.
  • Reviewing content performance and using the findings to improve future work.
  • Managing several content streams without waiting for somebody else to tell you what happens next.
  • Building practical AI tools, prompt systems and repeatable workflows that help the team research, plan, produce, review and improve content.
  • Applying human judgement to every AI-assisted output. You remain responsible for the thinking, accuracy, tone and quality of the final work.

This role is probably for you if:

  • You are a strong writer, but writing is only one part of how you think.
  • You are curious about business, consumer behaviour, culture and why people respond to certain ideas.
  • You can look at a brief and ask better questions before jumping into execution.
  • You care about how the final post looks, even when a designer created it.
  • You can explain why an idea should work, what objective it serves and what people should do after seeing it.
  • You are comfortable moving between research, planning, writing, briefing, reviewing and publishing.
  • You are comfortable experimenting with AI and building your own working systems around it. You do not treat AI as a replacement for thinking. You use it to speed up research, organise information, test directions, build useful tools and improve the quality of the work.
  • You take ownership of the full content process. You do not hand over your part and stop caring.

Experience we are looking for:

  • Around 2 to 5 years of experience in content strategy, social media, editorial, journalism, copywriting, brand marketing or a related role.
  • A portfolio that shows thinking as well as finished work.
  • Strong written English. Other languages are an advantage.
  • Experience developing content plans or social media strategies for brands.
  • A working understanding of Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and emerging content formats.
  • The ability to write for different voices, audiences and formats.
  • Good creative judgement across copy, design and video.
  • Experience reading platform analytics and drawing useful conclusions is an advantage.
  • Experience conducting interviews, directing shoots or developing video content is useful.
  • The ability to build useful prompt systems, custom GPTs, automations, agents or lightweight no-code AI tools.

The kind of person we want:

  • You care about the work.
  • You ask why before asking when.
  • You make solutions happen instead of waiting for somebody else to solve the problem.
  • You can take feedback, defend a sound idea, and change it when the criticism is right.
  • You are organised enough to handle several projects, but still curious enough to avoid producing the same safe content.
  • You play well with others. You are polite, steady under pressure and slow to anger.
  • And you believe content should do something for the business. Otherwise, it is only material filling a feed.

What to expect at BRANDTHINK

We are a strategic marketing consultancy based in Kuala Lumpur.

Our work starts with the business problem. We look at what the market keeps repeating, what people have learned to ignore, and what a brand can do to become harder to overlook.

You will work across lifestyle, travel, food and beverage, consumer products and other brand categories. Past and current clients include Singapore Tourism Board, Bosch, Garmin, Jollibee, Kanebo, Thermos, Dunkin’ and others.

The work can be demanding because we expect people to think beyond their assigned task.

But the point is not to make the job difficult for its own sake. The point is to develop people who understand the full purpose of their work.

If you want to become a sharper content thinker, this may be the right place.

Applicants must be Malaysian citizens, permanent residents, or already possess a valid working visa.
