Purpose of the Job

The Asia Pacific Head of Ocean Freight is responsible for providing strategic leadership and vision to drive ocean freight operations across the Asia-Pacific region. This role focuses on developing and executing innovative strategies to optimize the transportation of goods, ensuring efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and reliability. The position aims to align regional ocean freight operations with customer requirements and organizational goals, fostering growth and competitive advantage in the Asia Pacific market.

Job Description

  • Define and execute the Asia Pacific ocean freight strategy, aligning with global objectives to drive cost efficiency, service excellence, and scalability across diverse regional markets.
  • Lead end-to-end ocean freight operations across Asia Pacific, ensuring seamless execution, standardization, and optimization.
  • Own regional ocean freight performance, including P&L accountability, cost optimization, and delivery against financial and operational targets.
  • Establish and drive performance management frameworks, including KPIs and dashboards, to ensure transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead digital transformation and innovation initiatives, leveraging advanced analytics, automation, and emerging technologies to enhance visibility, efficiency, and decision-making.
  • Drive strategic sourcing and carrier management, including contract negotiation, network design, and long-term partnerships to optimize cost, capacity, and service levels.
  • Ensure compliance and risk governance, including trade regulations, customs requirements, and operational risk mitigation across all Asia Pacific markets.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with global and regional stakeholders to align ocean freight strategies with broader business priorities.
  • Champion sustainability and ESG initiatives, embedding environmentally responsible practices into ocean freight operations and supporting corporate sustainability targets.
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous capability development.
  • Drive continuous improvement and operational excellence, applying best practices, benchmarking, and process optimization to achieve best-in-class performance.

Job Requirements - Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field. MBA or Advanced Degree desirable.
  • 10+ years in freight transportation, logistics, or supply chain management with progressively increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Strong understanding of international trade regulations, customs compliance, and regional logistics operations.
  • Proven track record of strategic planning, execution, and performance improvement initiatives within the freight industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing cross-functional teams and driving results in a fast-paced, regional environment.
