Job Description

Responsibilities

Role Overview

This enhanced role combines full accountability for general ledger management with a critical taxation portfolio. The Manager will not only ensure the integrity and compliance of Pos Malaysia's financial records but will also lead all direct and indirect tax matters — driving tax efficiency, managing regulatory risk, and embedding sound tax governance across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

OWN IT

  • Lead and oversee general ledger management, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and integrity of financial records.
  • Supervise the review of accounting records, cost allocations, reconciliations, and resolution of discrepancies.
  • Establish strong internal controls and ensure proper documentation across all financial processes.
  • Own the end-to-end corporate tax compliance cycle — prepare, review, and submit accurate corporate income tax to Tax team.
  • Manage and maintain the tax provision schedule, deferred tax calculations, and tax reconciliations in accordance with MFRS 112.
  • Take full accountability for Withholding Tax (WHT) obligations on cross-border transactions, ensuring correct deduction, remittance, and reporting to LHDN.

BUILD TRUST

  • Direct the preparation of balance sheets, profit & loss statements, and cash flow reports to ensure reliable financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS/MFRS, Pos Malaysia Berhad reporting standards, and local statutory requirements.
  • Champion governance and uphold strong accounting principles to maintain credibility with stakeholders.
  • Act as the primary liaison with the tax team during audits, assessments, and enquiries.

ONE TEAM

  • Manage and mentor a team of finance and tax professionals, fostering collaboration and continuous development.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams — legal, procurement, HR, and operations — to identify tax implications in contracts, new business initiatives, and corporate restructuring exercises.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Big-4 auditors, and regulatory authorities.
  • Collaborate with Group Finance and Treasury on Transfer Pricing documentation and related party transaction reporting (RRPT) requirements in line with guidelines adopted by Malaysia.

MOVE FAST

  • Drive efficiency in financial operations, ensuring timely reporting and delivery of insights.
  • Anticipate and adapt to changing tax regulatory priorities while maintaining accuracy and high performance.
  • Provide proactive tax advisory support to enable agile business decision-making — particularly for new revenue streams, digital services, and logistics partnerships.

DELIGHT CUSTOMERS

  • Deliver clear, reliable financial and tax insights that empower management and stakeholders.
  • Act as a trusted tax advisor to internal business units, balancing responsiveness with strategic guidance to protect the organisation's tax position.

DRIVE INNOVATION

  • Lead initiatives to enhance financial and tax processes, reporting practices, and system utilisation.
  • Leverage analytical skills to identify tax planning opportunities, manage effective tax rate (ETR), and optimise available tax incentives.
  • Champion the adoption of tax technology tools — e-Filing portals, tax provisioning software, and ERP-integrated tax modules (SAP/Oracle) — to automate routine compliance tasks and reduce manual effort.
  • Drive digital transformation in the tax function by embedding tax data analytics, automated SST reconciliation, and real-time WHT tracking dashboards.

Job Requirements:

Education & Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field.
  • Professional qualification required: ACCA, CIMA, CPA, or equivalent is highly advantageous.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, with at least 3 years in a tax-specialist role (inhouse or Big-4/mid-tier firm).
  • Exposure to Transfer Pricing documentation as applied in Malaysia is an advantage.
  • Prior experience in handling LHDN tax audits, field audits, and desk audits is strongly preferred.

Technical Competencies

  • Strong command of Income Tax Act 1967, Sales Tax Act 2018, Service Tax Act 2018, and Stamp Act 1949.
  • Deep knowledge of MFRS 112 (Income Taxes), MFRS 137 (Provisions and Contingent Liabilities), and related standards.
  • High proficiency in SAP, Oracle, or equivalent ERP platforms; advanced Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, Power Query).
  • Familiarity with LHDN e-Services, MySST portal, and RMCD e-Services platforms.

Leadership & Behavioural Competencies

  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage, mentor, and inspire a finance and tax team.
  • Strong business acumen, stakeholder management capabilities, and executive communication skills.
  • High attention to detail, sound judgement under uncertainty, and ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Integrity-first mindset with a commitment to tax transparency and ethical tax governance.
