Our client is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer (Java/Spring Boot) based in Johor Bahru.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design and build APIs and microservices on the existing Java/Spring Boot stack.
• Own the data model and integrations to systems and third parties (payment gateways, WhatsApp Business / SMS, mapping, identity).
• Hold the backend quality bar code reviews, test authoring, SOC 2 / ISO 27001- aligned engineering practices in every new module.
• Partner with the Mobile Engineer on API contracts and BFF design; partner with DevOps on releases and observability.
• Operate AI-augmented engineering (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or equivalent) as the default workflow design, code, test, document and contribute prompt/workflow patterns back to the squad.
• Contribute to the reusable backend-capability layer builds for future engagements.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or related field.
• 6+ years backend engineering with Java and Spring Boot at scale.
• Fluent in REST API design, relational and non-relational data modelling, message-based and event-driven patterns.
• Experience integrating to payment gateways, identity providers, and messaging platforms (WhatsApp Business API, SMS).
• Hands-on with CI/CD, automated testing, and observability for backend services.
• AI coding agents in your daily workflow today, with evidence of how that compresses delivery.
• Bias for quality over heroics; write the test, then write the feature.
• Experience operating in regulated environments (SOC 2 / ISO 27001).
• Exposure to high-volume consumer-app backends in property, fintech, or community /loyalty domains.

Pay: RM16,000.00 - RM18,000.00 per month
