DEPARTMENT : NEW ENERGY
JOB PURPOSE : To provide technical expertise in the planning, development, operation, maintenance and optimization of hydroelectric power projects. The Hydro Specialist ensures safe, reliable and efficient plant performance while supporting project development, regulatory compliance and continuous improvement initiatives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide technical leadership on hydroelectric power plant operations, maintenance, and performance optimization.
- Monitor plant performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reliability and asset life.
- Support the planning, design, commissioning, rehabilitation and upgrading of hydroelectric facilities.
- Conduct technical assessments, feasibility studies and due diligence for new hydro power projects.
- Review engineering designs, technical specifications and contractor deliverables to ensure compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
- Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for hydro mechanical and electromechanical equipment.
- Analyze operational data, investigate equipment failures and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, environmental requirements, safety standards and company policies.
- Coordinate with consultants, contractors, equipment manufacturers and regulatory authorities throughout project execution.
- Prepare technical reports, operating procedures, budgets and management presentations.
- Support procurement activities, including technical evaluations of equipment and service providers.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to operations and maintenance personnel.
- Keep abreast of industry developments, emerging technologies and best practices in hydroelectric power generation.
JOB SPECIFICATION
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related engineering discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE/Ir.) certification is an advantage.
Experience:
- Minimum 8–15 years of relevant experience in hydroelectric power plants, dam engineering or renewable energy projects.
- Experience in hydro power project development, construction, commissioning, operation or maintenance.
- Experience with turbine-generator systems, hydro mechanical equipment and balance-of-plant systems is preferred.
- Experience in project management and contract administration is an added advantage.
Knowledge & Technical Competencies
- Strong knowledge of hydroelectric power generation systems and plant operations.
- Understanding of turbine, generator, governor, excitation, protection, SCADA and control systems.
- Knowledge of dam safety, water resource management, hydraulic structures and environmental compliance.
- Familiarity with relevant engineering standards, codes and regulatory requirements.
- Proficient in engineering analysis, root cause investigation and technical reporting.
- Good understanding of HSE requirements and risk management practices.
