Mechanical Design Lead (R&D)
Role Overview
On behalf of our client, we are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Lead (R&D) to lead the design and development of innovative mechanical products from concept through mass production. This role is ideal for a technical leader with strong product development expertise, solid mechanical engineering knowledge, and a passion for driving engineering excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end mechanical product development process, from concept design to production release.
- Design and develop precision mechanical systems, including enclosures, sheet metal chassis, mechanisms, automation, thermal management, optical, and fluidic systems.
- Lead technical design reviews and mentor junior engineers.
- Perform engineering analysis, including tolerance analysis, structural calculations, component sizing, and engineering simulations where applicable.
- Plan and execute product verification, validation, reliability, and performance testing.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for design and manufacturing issues.
- Drive Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), Design for Reliability (DFR), and Design for Cost (DFC) initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Project Management, Hardware, Software, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain.
- Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including design drawings, specifications, test reports, and engineering change documentation.
- Continuously improve engineering processes by adopting new technologies, simulation tools, and AI-assisted engineering practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in mechanical product development within an R&D environment.
- Proven experience leading complex product development projects.
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD software.
- Solid knowledge of precision mechanical design, GD&T, tolerance analysis, material selection, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly preferred: Precision Mechanisms, Automation Systems, Optical Systems Fluidics, Sheet Metal & Chassis Design, Thermal Management
- Experience with engineering simulation tools (FEA, CFD, or Optical Analysis) is an advantage.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills.
- Excellent leadership, communication, project planning, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of mentoring engineering teams.
- Experience utilizing AI tools to improve engineering productivity or documentation will be an added advantage.
Pay: Up to RM12,000.00 per month
