Role Overview
The Safety Coordinator will be responsible for establishing, implementing, and monitoring the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) framework for our projects. This role requires a proactive individual who can work independently and ensure full compliance with Malaysian occupational safety regulations. The ideal candidate will be vigilant, detail-oriented, and capable of fostering a strong safety culture across all project activities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Safety Framework & Compliance
Develop and maintain project-specific HSE plans, safety policies, and procedures in compliance with Malaysian Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) 1994 and DOSH regulations.
Establish and maintain HIRARC (Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control) registers for all project activities.
Ensure all site operations comply with local safety regulations, client requirements, and company safety standards.
Maintain an up-to-date understanding of all relevant safety legislation and industry best practices.
2. Daily Site Safety Operations
Conduct daily site inspections and safety walkthroughs to identify unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and potential hazards.
Verify that all workers are wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adhering to safety protocols.
Attend and participate in daily activity meetings to communicate safety matters and daily work activities to the team.
Monitor work areas to ensure they comply with safety standards, particularly for mechanical and electrical (M&E) engineering works.
Follow up on corrective actions for any identified non-compliance or hazards.
3. Permits & High-Risk Activity Management
Assist in the issuance, monitoring, and closure of Permit-to-Work (PTW) for high-risk activities including:
Hot work / Welding
Working at height
Lifting operations
Confined space entry
Temporary electrical connections
Ensure Lock-Out Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures are strictly followed for all isolation activities.
4. Training & Safety Culture
Conduct site safety inductions for all new workers and visitors.
Lead daily or weekly Toolbox Talks (safety briefings) to address specific task-related hazards.
Coordinate and deliver safety training programs as required, including emergency response drills.
Promote a positive safety culture by encouraging all team members to prioritise safety in their daily tasks.
5. Incident Management & Reporting
Assist in the investigation of all incidents, near misses, and hazards, and prepare investigation reports with root cause analysis and corrective action plans.
Maintain comprehensive incident logs and safety records.
Prepare and submit Weekly Safety Reports and other required documentation.
Upload reports to designated platforms and maintain hard copy records as required.
6. Stakeholder Coordination
Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and regulatory authorities on all safety-related matters.
Participate in joint safety walkthroughs with clients and consultants.
Coordinate safety requirements with subcontractors to ensure alignment with project safety standards.
Requirements
Qualifications & Certifications
Must possess a valid Yellow Book (Site Safety Supervisor registration with DOSH Malaysia).
Possession of a Green Book is an advantage but not mandatory.
Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
Experience
Minimum 1-2 years of relevant experience in a site safety role, preferably in mechanical and electrical (M&E), construction, or technology-related projects.
Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of Malaysian OSH regulations and DOSH requirements.
Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with all levels of staff and management.
Basic report writing skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Physically fit to conduct site walkthroughs and inspections.
Willingness to travel outstation to project sites when required.
