About the role

As the Manager, Legal, you will play a crucial role in providing strategic legal advice and support to the company's operations. You will collaborate closely with various departments to ensure legal compliance and drive the successful implementation of the company's initiatives. Addresses legal risks linked to contracts that generate revenue, corporate services, governance, conflict resolution, new ventures, and various advisory matters.

What you'll be doing

1. Develop and implement a comprehensive Legal & Risk Regulatory strategy that aligns with the organization's objectives and industry best practices

2. Lead the enforcement of effective legal policy and strategy with collaboration and from Senior Management

3. Advise the Management on obligation to comply and potential emerging risk due to changes of government policies, industry requirement or best practices from peers

4. Engage with key external legal stakeholders, e.g. Bursa Securities, the Companies Commission of Malaysia, Securities Commission Malaysia and Company Secretarial, to ensure compliance and required submission and disclosures for the organization

5. Provide sound legal advice on the business and operational risks and support the management team on their daily business operation in relations to legal requirement and compliance

6. Lead and support any disputes, litigation or arbitration matter involving the organization

7. Monitor and review legislative developments and support the business in the implementation as required

8. Advise management on legal implications of internal policies (including HR) and procedures; ensure compliance with legal requirements

9. Identify opportunities for improvement, drive and lead legal, risk and compliance initiatives and projects

10. Develop and lead the legal team to achieve operational effectiveness while fostering continuous personal and professional development

What we're looking for

1. 15+ years of post-qualification experience, with at least 5+ years ideally gained as practicing lawyer/in-house legal counsel with public listed company

2. Master's Degree in Commercial Law or Bachelor of Law (LLB) and qualified lawyer called to the Malaysian Bar

3. Ability to digest and keep abreast with the current development and understand the dynamics with the organization's environment and practices

4. Ability to lead value interventions, tools and methodologies to promote and instill high sense of commitment, ownership, integrity and loyalty that will contribute towards operational excellence

5. Proven track record of providing pragmatic, legal advice to operational staff and senior stakeholders

6. Ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively within a team environment
