This is a Junior Unix System Administrator / Platform Engineering (SBE) role focused heavily on middleware + Linux + enterprise app hosting.

1. Role Summary (what this job actually is)

You are basically looking at a Web/Middleware Platform Support Engineer who:

• Maintains Linux (RHEL/Unix) servers
• Deploys and supports Java enterprise applications
• Administers application servers (JBoss / WebLogic / Tomcat)
• Supports messaging middleware (IBM MQ)
• Handles production deployment + troubleshooting + uptime support

This is not pure Unix admin — it is Unix + Middleware + App Deployment ops

2. Core Skill BreakdownMust-have technical stack

Operating Systems

• Linux / Unix (RHEL preferred)
• Basic networking (ports, DNS, firewall basics)

Middleware / App Servers (VERY IMPORTANT)

• JBoss EAP (priority)
• Apache Tomcat
• WebLogic (good to have)
• WAR / EAR deployments
• JVM configuration basics

Scripting / Automation

• Shell scripting (bash)
• Basic automation for deployments / monitoring

Messaging

• IBM MQ (queue handling, basic admin/troubleshooting)

3. Key Responsibilities (decoded)

• Install & configure application servers (JBoss/Tomcat/WebLogic)
• Deploy Java applications (WAR/EAR)
• Monitor and support production environments
• Troubleshoot:
• JVM crashes / memory issues
• application deployment failures
• server performance issues
• Manage logs, restart services, patching
• Support integration with load balancers / reverse proxies (NGINX, Apache HTTPD)

4. Environment Exposure Expected

• Production + UAT support
• High availability systems
• Incident management (L2 support role)
• Possibly 24x7 on-call rotation

• 3–5 years experience (L2)
