Responsibilities

About the Role

 

Merlin MD develops next-generation neurovascular implants designed to treat intracranial aneurysms. We are seeking a hands-on R&D Technician to support prototype fabrication, bench-top testing, and Verification & Validation (V&V) activities across our device development pipeline. This is a technically demanding role suited to someone who enjoys working at the bench, is comfortable with fine mechanical assembly and precision instrumentation, and wants to contribute directly to devices that progress through FDA IDE and EU MDR regulatory pathways.

 

Primary Job Responsibilities:

 

1.    Prototype Build & Fabrication:

  • Fabricate device prototypes and test articles (e.g., polymer/drug coating,catheter subassemblies) per engineering drawings and work instructions
  • Execute mechanical, functional, and performance bench testing per approved protocols (e.g., fatigue, kink resistance, deployment/tracking)
  • Set up and operate test equipment such as track testers, tensile/compression test frames, Chandler loop circulatory flow models, and custom fixtures
  • Support design iteration cycles by rapidly turning around functional prototypes for engineering review

 

2.    Verification & Validation (V&V) Testing

  • Ensures all mechanical/electrical equipment supporting the facility is maintained and functioning properly.
  • Record, organize, and QC raw test data. Flag anomalies and support root-cause investigation
  • Ensures all documentation and service reports are completed and given to document control.

 

3.    Lab & Equipment Management

  • Maintain lab equipment, consumables inventory, and calibration schedules.
  • Ensure lab cleanliness and biosafety compliance
  • Support setup of new test rigs and process equipment as R&D infrastructure scales.

 

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • Diploma or accredited technical certification in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related technical field

 

Additional Qualifications Required:

  •  Working knowledge of current industry practices, and clean room procedures.
  • Comfort with basic data recording, spreadsheets, and following written technical protocols
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures precisely
