Role Description.

• Understand the design and document database architecture

• Establishing the needs of users and monitoring user access and security

• controlling access permissions and privileges

• developing, managing and testing back-up and recovery plans

• ensuring that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly

• working closely with IT project managers, application programmers and system architect

• Create shell scripts for task automation / unix cronjob

• Create, test and execute data management languages

• Analyze and sustain capacity and performance requirements

• Analyze, consolidate and tune database for optimal efficiency

• Monitor systems and platforms for availability

• Oversee backup, replication and failover

• Restore corrupted databases using backup

• Install, upgrades and patches

• Provide 24/7 support for critical situations

Qualifications

• Strong Oracle Database Administration skills, including installation, configuration, migration, and performance tuning.
• Hands-on experience with general Database Administration, backup and recovery, and capacity planning.
• Proficiency in database Replication and high-availability solutions (e.g., Data Guard, RAC) to ensure continuity of services.
• Advanced Troubleshooting abilities for complex database, performance, and connectivity issues.
• Solid understanding of Database Security, including access control, encryption, auditing, and compliance best practices.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience working as a senior or lead DBA in enterprise environments, preferably with mission-critical systems.
• Familiarity with Linux/UNIX environments, shell scripting, and automation tools for database operations.
• Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work on-site in Petaling Jaya, manage priorities in a contract position, and respond to incidents outside regular hours when required.
