Role Overview

As QA Engineer at Swipey, you are the last line of defence — and the first line of confidence.

You'll work side by side with product and engineering to deeply understand every feature before it ships, think adversarially about edge cases, and make the call on what's release-ready. You're not just running test scripts — you're a quality owner who helps the team ship at lightning speed without leaving critical bugs behind.

You'll combine sharp manual testing instincts with automation that scales, stay closely connected to how real customers use the product, and use AI aggressively to do all of it faster and better.

This isn't a checkbox role. It's a craft.

What You'll Do

Own Feature Quality End-to-End

• Deeply understand every feature being released — not just what it does, but why it exists and who it's for
• Sit with product and engineering during requirement discussions, not after
• Proactively identify edge cases, boundary conditions, and failure scenarios before writing a single test
• Be the person who asks "what happens when the customer does this?" — and then goes and tests it

Stay Close to Real Customer Behaviour

• Work closely with the Customer Support team to understand bugs that are surfacing in the wild and how customers are actually using the product
• Use support patterns to inform test coverage — if customers keep hitting it, you should be testing it
• Turn recurring customer issues into proactive regression tests so the same thing never ships twice

Manual Testing That Actually Thinks

• Design and execute structured test cases covering functional, regression, integration, and UAT scenarios
• Test across web and mobile (Android & iOS) with a focus on real-world usage patterns
• Document clearly — your bug reports are reproducible by anyone, not just you
• API testing is part of your toolkit, not a stretch

Build Automation That Sticks

• Build and maintain a test automation suite that keeps pace with the product's release speed
• Design automation that's maintainable, reliable, and actually runs in CI/CD
• Know when to automate and when not to — not everything deserves a script

Prioritise Like a Product Owner

• Assess and classify bugs: what blocks release, what doesn't, and why
• Understand MVP requirements and make clear, reasoned calls on release readiness
• Push back when something isn't ready. Say clearly when it is.

Go AI-First

• Use AI tools to accelerate test case generation, edge case discovery, and documentation
• Explore how AI improves your testing workflows — proactively, not reactively
• Share what works with the team — if you find a better way, it becomes the team's way

How Success Is Measured

You'll be successful when:

• Features ship at lightning speed with zero critical bugs — releases are confident, not anxious
• Edge cases are caught internally — customers never find what you should have found first
• Bug prioritisation is clear and trusted — the team knows what's blocking and what isn't, because you called it right
• Automation covers critical paths and runs reliably on every release cycle
• You're in the room during scoping — not just summoned at the end

What You Bring

• 3–5 years of QA experience — manual testing is strong, automation is real
• Tested web and mobile applications (Android + iOS)
• API testing experience (Postman or equivalent)
• Familiarity with test automation frameworks
• Experience in Agile/Scrum environments — you know how sprints work
• Strong written communication — your bug reports make engineers want to fix things
• High attention to detail — you notice what others miss
• Actively curious about AI tools and how they change the way you work
