The opportunity
Vertical Institute has trained over 50,000 professionals across B2C and B2B corporate programmes. Behind that growth is a set of commercial questions that the business needs sharp financial thinking to answer - which programmes are most profitable, where acquisition costs are running ahead of value, which channels are generating real returns, and where to invest next. This role exists to answer those questions.
We are looking for a Finance Business Partner to sit at the intersection of finance, strategy, and commercial operations - reporting directly to the Head of Finance and working closely with the CEO and department heads. You will build the analytical infrastructure the business needs to make faster, better decisions, and you will be in the room when those decisions are made.
Candidates from Big Four Deals Advisory, Transaction Services, Valuations, Corporate Finance, or Management Consulting backgrounds who are ready to move into an operational role are strongly encouraged to apply. This is the kind of commercially focused, high-visibility role that makes that transition meaningful rather than just a title change.
What you will own
Commercial decision support and business partnering
- Partner with department heads across marketing, sales, operations, and product to provide the financial insight that drives better decisions - not just reports of what already happened.
- Challenge assumptions, surface trade-offs, and bring a clear financial perspective to pricing, investment, and resource allocation decisions.
- Support programme launches and strategic growth initiatives with financial modelling that is grounded in real business drivers.
- Become a trusted advisor to the executive team - someone who is sought out before decisions are made, not consulted after.
Budgeting, forecasting, and planning
- Lead the annual budgeting process and maintain rolling forecasts across the business, working with stakeholders to turn strategic priorities into financial plans.
- Monitor performance against budget with enough rigour to catch risks early and enough commercial sense to distinguish a real problem from noise.
- Support long-range planning and scenario modelling that gives the CEO and leadership team genuine visibility into where the business is headed.
Revenue, margin, and growth analytics
- Analyse programme-level profitability, learner acquisition costs, cohort economics, and marketing ROI - building the unit economics picture the business needs to allocate resources well.
- Evaluate performance across programmes, channels, and customer segments to identify where growth is real and where it is subsidised.
- Build KPI dashboards and management reporting frameworks that give leadership real-time visibility into the metrics that matter.
- Partner with marketing and sales on funnel analytics and conversion performance, connecting commercial activity to financial outcomes.
Cost control and operational finance
- Work with department heads to monitor spending and keep costs aligned with budgets and business priorities - not as a gatekeeper, but as a commercial partner.
- Support procurement and vendor evaluation through financial analysis and benchmarking that informs better buying decisions.
- Prepare monthly business reviews and management presentations with the clarity and confidence that senior leadership expects.
What success looks like
- Within your first 6 months, you will have
- Established a reliable budgeting and forecasting process that the business actually uses to make decisions.
- Built KPI dashboards that give management real-time visibility into revenue, margins, and growth performance.
- Produced a clear picture of programme-level profitability and unit economics that did not previously exist.
- Enabled faster and more informed decision-making across the leadership team through financial insights they can act on.
- Established yourself as a trusted advisor to the business - someone leadership brings into conversations early, not after the fact.
What we look for
We are not looking for someone who produces reports. We are looking for someone who influences decisions. Beyond that:
- Degree in Finance, Accountancy, Economics, Business, or a related discipline.
- 4 to 8 years of experience in FP&A, commercial finance, transaction services, consulting, or business partnering - with a track record of connecting financial analysis to real business outcomes.
- Strong financial modelling and forecasting capability - you build models that decision-makers use, not models that sit in a folder.
- Advanced Excel or Google Sheets. Experience with Power BI, Looker Studio, Tableau, or similar dashboarding tools is a meaningful advantage.
- Strong commercial acumen - you understand the business behind the numbers, not just the numbers themselves.
- Clear, confident communicator with senior stakeholders. You present insights, handle pushback, and hold your own in commercial discussions.
- Experience in education, SaaS, technology, or high-growth businesses is a plus.
Why this role
A seat at the table
- You report to the Head of Finance and work directly with the CEO. Your analysis shapes decisions at the top of the business, not just informs them after the fact.
Build from scratch
- The commercial analytics infrastructure here is yours to build. Forecasting models, KPI dashboards, unit economics frameworks - none of it fully exists yet. That is the opportunity.
Real commercial exposure
- Revenue strategy, programme profitability, acquisition economics, and growth planning across a multi-stream business. Broader than most FP&A roles at this level.
A strong platform
- Fast-growing company, high standards, and a clear path toward senior finance leadership for the right person. Centrally located at the Lifelong Learning Institute, Paya Lebar.
