Job Description

The International Montessori School (IMS) seeks a creative, organised Makerspace Teaching Assistant to support our Makerspace programme across Elementary and Middle School. It's a great opportunity for a capable maker to broaden their expertise, working alongside our experienced Makerspace Teacher and exploring new techniques across digital fabrication and traditional crafts.

Key Responsibilities

• Environment & Maintenance: Prepare materials and learning kits, maintain equipment (3D printers, laser cutters, sewing machines), and track inventory levels.

• Student Facilitation: Act as a co-adult in the classroom, guiding students through the design thinking process and ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols during woodworking and machinery use.

• Science Lab Support: Provide periodic technical support for the Middle School science programme, including laboratory apparatus setup, material preparation, and clean-up.

• Program Support: Assist in the coordination and supervision of after-school Makerspace ECA programmes and support major school events.

• Collaboration: Work closely with the Makerspace Teacher to refine curricula and provide feedback on student progress and tool usability.

Qualifications

• Maker Mindset: Genuine passion for "DIY" learning, design, and hands-on crafting.

• Language: High proficiency in English is required; fluency in Mandarin or Cantonese is a significant advantage.

• Technical Aptitude: Experience with or a strong eagerness to learn digital fabrication (laser cutting, 3D printing) and traditional crafts.

• Organisation: Ability to anticipate preparation needs across multiple simultaneous projects and age groups.

• Team Player: Reliable, adaptable, and possesses excellent interpersonal skills for working with faculty and students.
