Backbase Engagement Banking Platform (EBP)
Location
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (hybrid; on-site at Bank as required)
Experience
Minimum 4–7 years in a QA/testing role within an SDLC/CI-CD environment
About the Role
As a Senior QA / Test Engineer on the NextGen programme, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality of the Backbase EBP-powered digital banking platform across all release milestones (R1–R4) through to Q*************. You will define the test strategy, build and execute test plans, manage defects, and own the quality gate process for each release - from CUG (closed user group) launch through to full public deployment.
This is a regulated banking environment. Testing must cover functional requirements and non-functional requirements including performance, security (VAPT-aligned), accessibility, and BNM compliance obligations. You will work closely with the Backbase delivery squad, EY's PMO (WS1), and Bank's IT and business teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and own the end-to-end test strategy, master test plan, and test data approach for the NextGenprogramme
- Build test plans and acceptance criteria across functional and non-functional testing dimensions - performance, security, integration, accessibility, and regulatory compliance
- Develop, maintain, and execute both manual and automated test cases covering the Backbase EBP web and mobile applications
- Manage the defect lifecycle - logging, triaging, tracking to closure, and reporting defect metrics to the programme SteerCo pack
- Define and govern the UAT approach, UAT roles, and defect management process in collaboration with Bank's business sign-off stakeholders
- Execute integration testing between Backbase EBP and Bank's back-end systems (core banking, payment processing, third-party APIs)
- Execute or coordinate security testing activities aligned to Backbase SDLC and the programme's VAPT obligations
- Support go-live readiness reviews and cutover activities for each release milestone (R1 CUG, R1 public, R2, R3, R4)
- Provide post-launch hypercare support - monitor quality metrics, triage incidents, and execute regression testing for early fixes
- Participate in Agile ceremonies and apply a DevOps testing mindset across the CI/CD pipeline
- Mentor and provide technical review to more junior QA engineers; contribute to the Backbase QA Guild way of working
Required Qualifications
- 4–7 years of QA/testing experience in an SDLC/CI-CD environment
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- Strong experience with DevOps methodology and CI/CD-integrated testing approaches
- Proficiency in at least one programming language sufficient to write automated test cases (e.g. Java, JavaScript, Python)
- Experience with automated testing frameworks (e.g. Selenium, Cypress, Appium, k6 or similar)
- Hands-on experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and contribution to Agile ceremonies
- Solid understanding of testing types: functional, regression, integration, performance, and security testing
- Experience designing test strategies for both web and mobile applications
- Excellent written and spoken English; ability to present test evidence and defect reporting to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred / Advantageous
- Experience with performance testing tools (k6, Perfana, DataDog)
- Knowledge of VAPT / penetration testing processes in a banking context
- Familiarity with BNM regulatory standards including RMIT November 2025 and PDPA data handling requirements
- Experience supporting UAT sign-off and regulatory compliance testing in a licensed financial institution
