Job Description

Responsibilities

The Analyst will support the Strategic Ventures team in the technical, commercial, and financial assessment of new business opportunities across energy, infrastructure, strategic partnerships, and other growth areas.The role is intended to strengthen the team’s analytical capability by providing financial modelling, technical-commercial evaluation, market analysis, feasibility assessment, and support for investment decision-making. The Analyst will work closely with the Business Development Manager in Strategic Ventures to assess the viability, risks, economics, and strategic fit of potential opportunities from early-stage screening through to management approval and project development. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIESAssist the Business Development Manager of Strategic Ventures in the technical, commercial, and financial assessment of new business opportunities.

  • Support the screening and evaluation of new business opportunities, including energy, infrastructure, strategic ventures, and other growth opportunities.
  • Assess the technical, commercial, and financial viability of new opportunities.
  • Translate technical and operational inputs into commercial and financial assumptions to support opportunity screening and investment evaluation.
  • Develop, maintain, and update financial models for new ventures and project opportunities.
  • Prepare financial analysis on project returns, cashflows, key assumptions, sensitivities, and financial risks.
  • Conduct market research, benchmarking, competitor analysis, industry analysis, and pricing assessments.
  • Support the evaluation of commercial structures, contractual arrangements, cost-sharing arrangements, partnership / JV structures, risk allocation, and project bankability.
  • Assist in due diligence on potential partners, clients, vendors, contractors, and project opportunities, including identifying key issues, gaps, clarification points, and risks.
  • Prepare opportunity papers, feasibility summaries, business cases, financial summaries, management presentations, Board papers, and approval papers.
  • Track key project assumptions, workstreams, risks, timelines, approvals, and action items.
  • Maintain business development pipeline trackers, opportunity screening tools, project evaluation templates, and financial models.
  • Support continuous improvement of assessment templates, reporting tools, financial models, and internal business development processes.
  • Perform any other tasks as may be required from time to time.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least 4 -7 years of relevant experience in financial analysis, investment evaluation, project development, consulting, or related commercial / technical roles.
  • Experience in power generation, renewable energy, gas-fired power, utilities, infrastructure, data centres, gas/LNG, or project-based industries would be an advantage.
  • Experience supporting feasibility studies, financial models, investment papers, technical-commercial assessments, project economics, or due diligence would be highly valued.
  • Strong financial modelling skills, including cashflow modelling, IRR, NPV, sensitivity analysis, scenario analysis, and project return assessment.
  • Ability to understand and interpret technical project inputs and translate them into commercial and financial assumptions.
  • Good understanding of project development, investment evaluation, project economics, and commercial risk assessment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess both technical feasibility and financial viability.
  • Ability to prepare clear management papers, presentations, reports, and investment summaries.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work across technical, finance, legal, and commercial teams.
  • High attention to detail, strong ownership, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Knowledge of energy markets would be an added advantage.
